Congratulations to BISD Superintendent Dr. Darrell G. Brown for being named a “Rebel Star” at Richland High School. Richland awards Rebel Stars to employees that are making a difference in the lives of our students. Dr. Brown received this recognition for his leadership and support of resources that enhance learning at Richland. He is leading the way for the campus as they address safe guards (English language learners and special education English performance on end-of-course exams) and supporting their work with focus on Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) strategies and co-teaching training for our teachers. Dr. Brown and his staff have listened to the needs of the campus and he has responded with support personnel as well as specific and intentional staff development for teachers.

Birdville ISD Receives Highest Rating for Finances

pass

The Texas Education Agency announced Friday, Oct. 12 that Birdville ISD received a rating of “Pass” under Texas’ school financial accountability rating system, known as the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). This rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of BISD’s financial management and reporting system.

Created by the 77th Texas Legislature in 2001, FIRST is designed to encourage public schools to better manage their financial resources in order to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes.

The 2014–15 ratings are based on annual financial reports provided to TEA by districts and charters from the 2014 fiscal year. The financial accountability system requires TEA to review the audited financial reports from all districts and charters.

Birdville ISD will hold a public hearing on the FIRST rating at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at the BISD Administration Building.

Congratulations to Richland High School’s Honors Band, under the direction of Jason Bird, for being recognized as a commended winner in the National Mark of Excellence competition hosted by The Foundation for Music Education. While they do not release exact placements, this award means the RHS Honors Band is one of the top 14 bands from across the nation that submitted to the contest. Along with the ensemble recognition, graduates Taylor Wyatt and Nicole Griffin, were named outstanding soloists. Pictured with their honor are drum majors Vicky Murillo and Josh Alpert.
