2015 Birdville Council of PTAs Founders Day Celebration

The Birdville Council of PTAs will celebrate Founders Day, commemorating the establishment of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), with dinner at 6 p.m. and the program beginning at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Thomas Coliseum. Students who have won at the PTA Council-level of the annual Reflections Arts Program will be recognized at this event. Dinner tickets are $10 each. Haltom High School Presents “42nd Street”

“42nd Street” is set in New York City in 1933 and follows the company of the 42nd Street Theatre as they produce an original Broadway show from writing, to auditioning, to rehearsing, to opening night. It is full of classic Broadway music, tap dancing, and spectacular sets and costumes. Haltom High School’s student company is made up of 42 performers, 19 orchestra members, and about 30 crew members.

Shows are Jan. 31 through Feb. 3 in the theatre at Haltom High. Tickets are $7 for students and senior adults, and $10 for adults.

BISD theatre and choir teachers get one free ticket. Please sign in at the box office or contact Renee Norris (817-547-6126 or renee.norris@birdvilleschools.net) in advance to have your ticket delivered to your school.

Middle School Musical Night is Monday, Feb. 2. All middle school choir and theatre students can purchase tickets for $5. The companies of “Shrek” and “Once Upon a Mattress” get tickets for $3.

BISD retired teachers get a free ticket.

To purchase tickets in advance, go to https://birdvilleisd.revtrak.net and click on the BISD high schools icon. Select Haltom High School and pick the show you would like to attend. This allows you to use your credit card in advance. Show your electronic receipt or printed receipt at the box office to claim your ticket.

Deaf/Hearing Impaired Students at Smithfield Middle School

Six deaf/hearing impaired students at Smithfield Middle School are on a special Battle of the Books team that will compete against three other deaf/hearing impaired teams from across the nation. Those teams are at state schools for the deaf in Georgia, Louisiana and Massachusetts. The competition will occur through simultaneous video webcast using sign language interpreters from Gallaudet University. The competition has been coordinated with the assistance of Beth Muirhead, SMS librarian; the Deaf Ed staff (particularly their teacher, Teresa Fuller); and Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. (Gallaudet University sponsors and coordinates the event.) Two of BISD’s Deaf education students designed the team T-shirt.

Birdville ISD Children to Perform at Meyerson Symphony Center

On Saturday, January 31, 240 North Texas elementary and middle school students will sing in the 19th Annual North Texas Children’s Choir concert. The concert will be held in the world renowned Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas. 22 vocalists, listed below, from Birdville ISD will perform.
