Stage West Announces Neighborhood Play Contest Winners

Fort Worth’s Stage West Theatre recently announced winners of their Neighborhood Play Contest which included several student playwrights from BISD. The winning plays, selected from more than 450 entries, will be produced in Stage West’s Festival of the Kid May 11–13 in their studio theatre.  Congratulations to these BISD students and their winning plays:

  • Elizabeth Allison (Richland HS) – “The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot”
  • Lauren Murphy (Watauga MS) – “That One Poem”
  • Amanda Roden (Haltom HS) – “Butterfly Effect #2”
  • Leah Singleton (Haltom HS) – “Rewritten”  (Honorable Mention)
  • Cristina Grace Del Cristo (Watauga MS) – “The Voice”  (Honorable Mention)
  • Abby Key (Richland HS) – “Essays”  (Honorable Mention)

BISD hosting Meeting for Parents of Special Education Students

Birdville ISD’s Special Education Department is having three informational parent meetings for parents and/or guardians of students currently served by PDS, IDS, Developmental Skills, Transition, IBC, Homeroom Resource, SELF and POST. Meetings are: Monday, Feb. 9 in the Omni Room at Haltom High School, Tuesday, Feb. 10 in the Omni Room at Richland High School, and Thursday, Feb. 12 in the Lecture Hall at Birdville High School. All meetings will be from 6‒7 p.m. For questions, contact the Special Education Department at 817-547-5700.

Watauga Middle School student wins “Expressions of Gratitude” writing contest

congratulationsCongratulations to Emily Rhodes, seventh-grade student at Watauga Middle School, for winning first place in the 10th annual “Expressions of Gratitude” writing contest sponsored by the Thanks-Giving Foundation. The theme was, “I am grateful for The Golden Rule.” Emily is pictured with her teacher, Heather Raynsford.
