North Richland Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society Awarded Friendship Award

On Thursday, March 23, North Richland Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society was awarded the Friendship Award by SafeHaven of Tarrant County.  NJHS officers Katherine Schraub, president; Steven Nguyen, vice-president; Audrey Wasson, secretary; and Teresa Chen, historian, attended SafeHaven’s Annual Meeting to receive the award.

North Richland Middle School’s NJHS has supported SafeHaven for the last nine years through an annual Pay It Forward fundraiser. Every year, NJHS uses the funds raised to pack Valentine’s goodie bags and donate supplies for a full-fledged Easter Egg Hunt for every single child at both SafeHaven of Tarrant County shelters.

Congratulations to Haltom High School Students Dell Stevens and Dylan Walker

Congratulations to Dell Stevens and Dylan Walker, both Haltom High School students, for winning the Circle Theatre Playwriting Contest. (More than 100 plays are submitted annually.) Dylan’s play, “Lovers on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” is one of four finalists who will have a professional play reading at Circle Theatre on May 7 at 3 p.m. The event is open to the public and is free. Dell’s play, “Man of Three Shadows,” is one of five semi-finalists. Both writers will receive cash prizes, tickets to an area theatre, and time to visit with producers, directors and actors. Dylan will have a scholarship from Texas Wesleyan Theatre waiting for him upon graduation. Haltom Theatre will have a staged reading in May to honor these students and their success. Dylan and Dell join a long line of successful playwrights from Haltom High School. Students study playwriting in Theatre II each year.
