BISD is accepting feedback on the proposed 2013-14 calendars through 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30.

The Calendar Committee is no longer accepting comments.

The 2013-14 Calendar Committee has created three calendar options to be reviewed by community, staff, parents, and students. Each calendar has slight differences related to holidays and professional learning days for teachers.

Due to the restraints of the 2013-14 calendar, graduation will occur prior to the last day of school on the Calendar C option.

Please provide the district your comments on the following calendar options.

Texas Education Code 25.0811: First day of instruction. (a) A school district may not begin instruction for students for a school year before the fourth Monday in August unless the district operates a year-round system under Section 25.085.

  1. Rebecca 11/13/2012, 10:13 am:

option C is preferred. A is ok, but definitely not B. Coming back for a 1/2 week during the winter break is more probable for too many absences.

  2. Vickie Vickers 11/13/2012, 9:47 am:

    Option A

  3. JP 11/13/2012, 9:04 am:

Being a 200 day employee this shortens our summer. I would prefer calendar A. 2 weeks is much better for Christmas Break. Also, many schools are not off that first week in June, and it’s a great time to travel if you want to beat the crowds.

  4. Elizabeth S. 11/13/2012, 8:58 am:

    I vote for option C

  5. tyler sears 11/13/2012, 8:28 am:

    as a student i would like B!!!!!!

    Option C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I prefer Option A.

  10. D 11/13/2012, 7:13 am:

I perfer C, because it gives us more time for the holidays with our families, especially when they are all out of town.

  11. Sherry Butler 11/12/2012, 9:26 pm:

    Option C
    +1 week off for Thanksgiving
    +2 weeks off for Christmas
+Not working on the May 31st

    -Working into June

Easy decision- C is the best!

  12. KB 11/12/2012, 8:36 pm:

  13. Belinda 11/12/2012, 8:17 pm:

    We prefer Option C.

  14. Diana Hillhouse 11/12/2012, 8:09 pm:

    I like Option A.

  15. Glenn Rosenberger 11/12/2012, 7:46 pm:

    Go Class of 2014
My son will be a senior next year. If he’s NOT expected to be in school after graduation, I’ll support Option C. But if you’re expecting seniors to attend after graduation, then our family will vote for Option A

  16. Neita Campbell 11/12/2012, 7:46 pm:

    Option C

  17. Christina Ferriman 11/12/2012, 6:30 pm:

    Option B First Choice

    Option C Second Choice

  18. Christina Ferriman 11/12/2012, 6:29 pm:

    First Choice B
    Second Choice C

  19. Alicia 11/12/2012, 5:39 pm:

Showed my kids the three options and we all vote for option “C”!
So as a family, that’s five votes for C, please! Thanks! :)

  20. Deana Robisheaux 11/12/2012, 5:32 pm:

    C please

  21. Gabrielle 11/12/2012, 5:25 pm:

    I prefer C

  22. Cynthia Cragle 11/12/2012, 5:23 pm:

C is by far the best! We get to spend time with our families during both holidays. I do not care for B at all.

  23. Sarah E. Ford 11/12/2012, 5:10 pm:

I prefer option C. As a high school student of divorced parents I need both the 1 week of thanksgiving and the 2 weeks of Christmas to be able to see my entire family on both sides. This year has really discouraged me so far with the change. I’m voting for option C.

  24. Griselda 11/12/2012, 5:01 pm:

    Option C

  25. J Phillips 11/12/2012, 4:56 pm:

    Option C.

  26. Ta'Nisha 11/12/2012, 4:40 pm:

Option a is great. I don’t want to be in school past May which is the reason why I didn’t pick option c

  27. Paula White 11/12/2012, 4:37 pm:

    I prefer Option A.
Honestly I am not looking forward to the short Christmas break this year. It is not enough time off to rest and more importantly, to visit with my children who are away at college.

The week for Thanksgiving will be great, but I would rather work Mon & Tues. I understand due to the mandated days of service & instruction, we can not have both without extending the school year into June. Extending the school year, interferes with college calendars, child visitations, and summer enrichment activities.

  28. Veronica Chapa 11/12/2012, 4:20 pm:

    I like option C.

  29. Melissa 11/12/2012, 3:29 pm:

Option A. Option C is my second choice, but with option C band camps get pushed back and it messes with other summer activitys.

  30. Karen 11/12/2012, 3:20 pm:

    C or A please!

  31. Karla 11/12/2012, 2:56 pm:

Not that the calendar committee listens to feedback, but my choice is A or C. Less than 2 weeks at Christmas is unacceptable!!!!!

    • David Smith 11/13/2012, 10:19 am:

Option A is by far my first choice. My second choice is Option C.

  32. Kristen P 11/12/2012, 2:36 pm:

I prefer Option C by far. As a family that travels for holidays, 2 weeks at Christmas is very important, and one week at Thanksgiving is helpful, too. Option A is my second choice, and B is a very distant third. Half weeks like the ones in Options A and B are awkward, and many students are gone because their families travel, too.

I know I may be alone in this opinion, but I’d rather end the school day even one day later and get Columbus Day off in October (for teachers). I’ve heard from several teachers that one day in October would be SO helpful in feeling recharged and ready to go for the 2nd six weeks. It also seems to make more sense for finals since we’ve recently chagned from two to three days of finals. I know it’s too late for this calendar, but maybe a consideration for the next one…?

  33. Don Mosley 11/12/2012, 2:31 pm:

    We prefer option A

  34. Dara Mosley 11/12/2012, 2:28 pm:

    We prefer option A

  35. Kathy Rodgers 11/12/2012, 2:26 pm:

Definitely Option A! I don’t want school to go into June and love the 2 full weeks at Christmas.

  36. Sharon Barnard 11/12/2012, 2:00 pm:

Option A!!! Option C would be my second choice. Most universities don’t get a whole week at Thanksgiving, so with two in college as well as one in middle school, I much prefer having the family time together at Christmas. Having a longer Christmas break is so very needed for students and staff.

  37. Jessica Mack 11/12/2012, 1:42 pm:

    I vote for option C.
    Thank you!!

  38. Vee 11/12/2012, 1:30 pm:

Option C looks great! Option A is what we are accustomed to and we know works. Just throw out Option B.

  39. Hitler 11/12/2012, 1:18 pm:

I prefer the one that lets me run my “camps” in the summer more so option A it is or C. I like thanksgiving too

  40. Karen 11/12/2012, 1:13 pm:

    I prefer Option A.

  41. Karen 11/12/2012, 1:12 pm:

I prefer Option A. Thank you for the choices.

  42. Dawn S. 11/12/2012, 1:12 pm:

I like Option A the best. It seems that a lot of the comments are from teachers who talk about needing the extra time off to prepare for their students. The district should also consider working parents who aren’t teachers. We don’t have tons of time off during holidays, Spring Break, and Summer like teachers do. Therefore, it is difficult for working parents to find and/or pay for additional daycare for those extra days off during Thanksgiving. In addition, summer camps tend to start the first week of June so that would push some kids out of those camps. Thanks for the opportunity to voice our opinion!

  43. SHARON JAMES 11/12/2012, 1:09 pm:

BEING A BUS DRIVER I PREFER OPITION A

  44. rosie chase 11/12/2012, 1:07 pm:

    I prefer option A.

  45. Ginger 11/12/2012, 12:37 pm:

    Schedule A.

The full week at Thanksgiving followed by 2 full weeks at Christmas is too much for working parents and promotes the laid-back attitude that most teachers gripe about in December. It also doesn’t make sense to have Seniors return to school after Graduation. That eliminates most of the celebratory feeling of finality on graduation weekend.

  46. Melanie Marten 11/12/2012, 12:25 pm:

    option A Please

  47. Christin Osborn 11/12/2012, 12:23 pm:

I prefer options B or C. I really like having a week for Thanksgiving. More time at Christmas is a tradeoff for not having to go in June, so either one works for me. As the wife of a teacher and a mom of an elementary scholar, these work best for us.

  48. Rhonda 11/12/2012, 12:15 pm:

    C
    A my second choice

  49. Elisa 11/12/2012, 12:11 pm:

    C

  50. Hannah 11/12/2012, 12:10 pm:

    option c

  51. Donna Zimmerman 11/12/2012, 12:10 pm:

    Option C

  52. Elisa Andrews 11/12/2012, 12:06 pm:

Option C! I like that we have full weeks for both holidays! I don’t mind getting out in June.

  53. DB 11/12/2012, 12:02 pm:

    Option A

  54. Billy 11/12/2012, 11:52 am:

The return on attending the first few days of June far outweigh the lost days of travel. I graduated before the last day of classes over 30 years ago. It was not an issue then. Not enough travel time being off the day before Thanksgiving. I am amazed at the number of absences on these days. I am interested in the attendance rate for the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving. My family and friends like C then A. C seems like a more relaxed schedule.

  55. donna herndon 11/12/2012, 11:46 am:

I like Option C. Students and Teachers need those breaks during the school year and the 3 extra days at the end of the school year will not kill anyone.

  56. brittany drake 11/12/2012, 11:39 am:

    Option C

  57. S. Lowe 11/12/2012, 11:27 am:

    I prefer C

  58. Heather 11/12/2012, 11:25 am:

I prefer Option A, as a parent and teacher with BISD.

  59. Deatra Gills 11/12/2012, 11:14 am:

    Calendar C

  60. Laurie 11/12/2012, 11:10 am:

Option C then A, thanks for asking our opinion!

  61. S Wilson 11/12/2012, 11:06 am:

    Option A definitely.

  62. Kathryn 11/12/2012, 10:59 am:

    Option C!

  63. vicki 11/12/2012, 10:45 am:

    I prefer C

  64. Kathy 11/12/2012, 10:41 am:

A please. I will gladly give up the full week of Thanksgiving to have 2 full weeks at Christmas. I really don’t like coming back the day after the first of January.

I don’t mind calendar C, but I am afraid we will loose a lot of attendance if we go into June.

  65. Candice Estep 11/12/2012, 10:33 am:

    I prefer Option C

  66. Jeovanna Ojeda 11/12/2012, 10:31 am:

    I like option C

  67. Chase Browning 11/12/2012, 10:25 am:

    Option A

  68. Aly Dunn 11/12/2012, 10:19 am:

As a student, I hear all of the complains about only having one and a half weeks for Christmas. There is a lot of it. I actually agree that we should have one week for Thanksgiving, but I really do like having TWO weeks for Christmas. There is more time to travel and to see family. So, I prefer option C.

  69. Suzy Compton 11/12/2012, 9:42 am:

Option C has many benefits: Long Thanksgiving break and three weekends during the Christmas break. Lots of family gatherings during that time even on New Years Day so having a couple extra days off after New Years is healthy for all families.
Since we don’t start school until late in August I don’t think it is an issue for students to go to school through the first week of June; in fact, for many families I think it would be welcome. One more week at the end of the year is a good trade off for some nice long breaks during the school year. It may help both staff and student attendance rates.

  70. Mariah 11/12/2012, 9:36 am:

    C

  71. Rhett Peel 11/12/2012, 9:36 am:

Option C will give parents more options.

  72. Carol 11/12/2012, 9:31 am:

I like Calendar A, with C being my second choice. BISD has never had a full week off for Thanksgiving until this year. Going back to 3 days at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas and then being finished by June 1 is more like what we have done in the past.

  73. steve holleman 11/12/2012, 9:28 am:

Option A works best for us. We still like the calendar from years ago with the winter break in frbruary and the abbreviated summer but I guess with the state mandated start date, we can’t do that anymore.

  74. Diana 11/12/2012, 9:08 am:

    I PREFER Option A

  75. Helen Clark 11/12/2012, 9:06 am:

I vote for Calendar A, I beleive with B and C, we are going to have many students absend on the days after New Years and the 1/2 days at the end of the year.

  76. Jill 11/12/2012, 9:02 am:

    Option A

  77. Betty 11/12/2012, 9:01 am:

I agree with the other posts selecting calendar option “C”.

  78. Julie Parsons 11/12/2012, 8:50 am:

    Option A

  79. Melanie 11/12/2012, 8:47 am:

As a parent and teacher, I prefer option C. This gives me the most time with my kids during the holidays and ensures I don’t have to make daycare arrangements since they are in another school district and have the whole week at Thanksgving and 2 weeks at Christmas. This gives students and teachers a time to recharge and still feel they had an enjoyable holiday season with their families.

  80. Melanie 11/12/2012, 8:38 am:

Option C…as a teacher and a parent, this gives me the most time off with my kids. This also helps to ensure that daycare won’t be an issue since they are in another school district and always have a week at Thanksgiving and 2 weeks at Christmas.

  81. Nicole 11/12/2012, 8:37 am:

    “C”!!!!!!!

  82. Kimberly 11/12/2012, 8:33 am:

    I prefer option A

  83. Jennifer Blackburn 11/12/2012, 8:01 am:

Calendar A – my middle schooler wants 2 weeks at Christmas.

    • Christi 11/12/2012, 8:37 am:

      option C

  84. Julie 11/12/2012, 7:43 am:

We prefer Option A. It is easier to travel and visit family with 2 full weeks at Christmas. We also prefer the school year finishing in May allowing summer activities and vacations to begin.

  85. Sandra 11/12/2012, 7:34 am:

i perfer option C. I believe that this is a good option for both parents and students

  86. Melinda Strittmatter 11/12/2012, 7:30 am:

I prefer option A. Having a couple extra days to teach before the holidays helps keep them going in the right direction academically and then allows time to travel on the Christmas Break. Thanks for the options and link to reply! :)

  87. Belinda Clarkson 11/12/2012, 7:29 am:

C! C! C! please that’s amazing forn my kids! they’re always so stressed out because of 3 day or half week breaks

  88. Cyndy McDevitt 11/12/2012, 7:18 am:

    I prefer Option B

  89. Wendy Adams 11/12/2012, 7:01 am:

    Calendar B

  90. Teri Naya 11/12/2012, 6:34 am:

    Option A

  91. Susan 11/12/2012, 6:29 am:

    I prefer A

  92. Kristi Breslau 11/12/2012, 2:57 am:

Although, the week long break for Thanksgiving this year gives teachers and families much more needed time to prepare for the major holiday, I have to go with option A. The two weeks off for Christmas is really, badly needed and it’s what people are use to having. It, also, gives military families (if they’re lucky enough to be home for Xmas) more time to spend together. And, let’s face it, making seniors go back to school after graduation in JUST PLAIN RIDICULOUS! It would take all the excitement and sense of finality out of one of the most important events in a person’s life.

    • Alicia 11/12/2012, 5:42 pm:

Seniors don’t have to go back after graduation.

  93. Mary Masters 11/11/2012, 10:50 pm:

Definitely A as first choice and C as second choice. B really causes problems for us whose custody at Christmas vacation is split in half.

  94. Danny 11/11/2012, 10:29 pm:

    C.

  95. Linda 11/11/2012, 9:00 pm:

As an educator and mom, I prefer option C.

  96. Diana Lehr 11/11/2012, 8:58 pm:

    I like option C.

  97. Jennifer Fee 11/11/2012, 8:58 pm:

Option C! Please think of teachers who have children and would like to be off at the same time they are. Christmas is a special time for my family and I would like to be able to enjoy all of it with them. My husband works in a different district and we don’t get to spend all of the holiday break together because the district wants to be out by June 1st. I would rather have one more week of school at the end then work on Saturdays and Sundays (Graduation).

  98. Kristin 11/11/2012, 8:11 pm:

A is the better calendar. If your schools’ team is in the football playoffs, or you have a basketball player, the longer holiday is meaningless due to practices and games. Plus, summer fever sets into the kids the first of May. Keeping them through the first full week of June is harder on the teachers than missing two days of Thanksgiving break!

  99. Karen Oldenburg 11/11/2012, 8:04 pm:

We like C with A as our second choice

  100. Amelia Tomassi 11/11/2012, 7:39 pm:

    I like option A.

  101. Julia Martinez 11/11/2012, 6:50 pm:

    Option C

  102. DeAnna Thomas 11/11/2012, 6:28 pm:

    Option A

  103. Toni Powers 11/11/2012, 6:14 pm:

    Option C

  104. Dave Powers 11/11/2012, 6:13 pm:

    Option C

  105. Judy 11/11/2012, 6:09 pm:

Option C..a week off for Thanksgiving and two for Christmas! Also, I don’t mind working that first week of June.

  106. Heather Schaule 11/11/2012, 5:29 pm:

I prefer option C. As a teacher, I agree with what others have said, it’s nice to have the full week at Thanksgiving and it’s too difficult to return from a holiday mid-week.

  107. Kally Long 11/11/2012, 5:01 pm:

    Option C

  108. Elizabeth 11/11/2012, 4:57 pm:

Calendar A, get out early and not all parents have at week off at thanksgiving it also gives us 2 weeks at christmas

  109. Elizabeth 11/11/2012, 4:56 pm:

    Calendar A

  110. Mary 11/11/2012, 4:23 pm:

    i prefer calendar A.

  111. g 11/11/2012, 3:35 pm:

C vote, having a full memorial week end would be great! 2 weeks for Christmas (3 would be better) and 1 week for Thanksgiving, nice. the majority of people don’t go on crusies or out of state, sounds like a luxury and that is fine if you can afford it. I remember graduating June 2 and that ok. Seniors were prevy to not returning. All in all it should be what is best for the students and helpful to teachers

  112. HR 11/11/2012, 2:48 pm:

Option A.. Graduating BEFORE classes are officially done, not exciting. Love the long holiday breaks, you get to spend more family time, especially if you travel. I think you should post a VOTE on them, not just a “response” on the site.

  113. Beth Robinson 11/11/2012, 2:38 pm:

Option B. Like full week at Thanksgiving and being out before June – before others districts. Am fine with returning on Jan 2. Easier to transition back into school mode/routines with two days of the week left then having a whole week. Besides, there is a holiday two weeks later.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to voice our preferences.

  114. Karen 11/11/2012, 2:06 pm:

    I vote for calendar C.

  115. kellya 11/11/2012, 1:40 pm:

    I vote C

  116. Diane H. 11/11/2012, 12:32 pm:

Anything as long as there is two weeks at Christmas is okay with me. B looks the best to me. I don’t think kids will show up to the two half days in June with option C.

    • Karla 11/12/2012, 2:58 pm:

B does not have 2 weeks at Christmas BTW.

  117. Laura B 11/11/2012, 12:27 pm:

Option A! There is something wonderful about finishing school in May! And I would rather have a longer Christmas break than Thanksgiving break.

  118. Pamela Wright 11/11/2012, 12:25 pm:

I like option C. I hope our choices are truly considered this time. The schedule we have this year made my annual Christmas trip home very difficult. However, I am glad we have multiple days off to enjoy the holidays. I think option C is the best of both worlds, especially since we do not get the Fall break with the students. Therefore by the time we get to Thanksgiving and Christmas we truly are in need of an extended break.

  119. Amanda 11/11/2012, 12:05 pm:

    Option C

  120. Karen Russell 11/11/2012, 10:57 am:

    Prefer option A

  121. Kevin 11/11/2012, 10:08 am:

    Option C

  122. V. Barth 11/11/2012, 8:40 am:

    Option A

  123. Mary Baum 11/11/2012, 7:48 am:

I so appreciate the opportunity to leave feedback on the proposed calendars! I pick calendar A because we travel for two weeks to see family at Christmas every year but do not need the travel time at Thanksgiving. Calendar C would be acceptable but I wonder if is a good idea to have so much time off so close together. Thank you for considering our comments.

  124. Carmen Smith 11/11/2012, 7:10 am:

I want two weeks at Christmas back! I was so dissapointed to see our time was shortened this year at Christmas. I like option C or A the best. It also gives teachers 3 work days before school starts! That time is needed badly by teachers.

  125. Alieen 11/11/2012, 6:36 am:

I vote option C. I like having 2 full weeks at Christmas that when family usually comes to visit. I hate having to cut time with the great-grandparents short.

  126. Travis 11/11/2012, 6:31 am:

option C, definately! Give me more time with the kids, when I’m off since I work LONG hours during their summer breaks.

  127. Gina 11/11/2012, 4:48 am:

I prefer Option B. Thank you for allowing our feedback.

  128. Paige Smith 11/11/2012, 4:38 am:

    Option a

  129. Lisa P 11/11/2012, 12:45 am:

Option A : two weeks at Christmas much needed!!

    • David Walden 11/13/2012, 7:00 am:

Option A is by far the best. As an educator, I think we need two full weeks at Christmas and we don’t want to go into June.

  130. Jean Talent 11/10/2012, 11:33 pm:

I prefer option C first, and option A second.

  131. Tina Powell 11/10/2012, 10:41 pm:

Calendar A. I am prefer 2 weeks at Christmas. We are having a short Christmas break this year and I don’t like it.

  132. Gail LeBreton 11/10/2012, 10:10 pm:

    Option A

  133. Erika 11/10/2012, 9:31 pm:

    I go with option c

  134. Kris 11/10/2012, 8:31 pm:

I think Calendar A or C would be a better option. A definite NO to Calendar B.

  135. Alicia 11/10/2012, 8:23 pm:

B because you still get the longer breaks 2nd choice would be c

    • Alicia 11/10/2012, 8:26 pm:

      Meant a or c NOT b!!!

  136. Lysette Reeves 11/10/2012, 8:19 pm:

I vote for option C. Having a week off for Thanksgiving, and a full 2 weeks off for Christmas is golden for us who travel. Don’t mind going into June. Thank you for the options.

  137. Fara 11/10/2012, 7:08 pm:

I like Option C. I like the longer holiday breaks.

  138. Marissa 11/10/2012, 7:06 pm:

Calendar A, I really love having my two full weeks at Christmas!

  139. Melinda 11/10/2012, 5:55 pm:

    I vote for A.

  140. Samantha 11/10/2012, 5:53 pm:

I vote option C!!! I am a teacher and having those breaks for Thanksgiving and Christmas are SO needed. Also, it isn’t that much longer into June and most other districts go till June now too.

  141. Tony Newman 11/10/2012, 4:59 pm:

We prefer Option A. It is better for students and teachers.

    • Janet Walters 11/11/2012, 10:14 am:

As a teacher, I completely agree with Calendar A being the best for teachers and students. Calendar C would not be good because shortening the number of instructional days before the STAAR test is a mistake. Then that prolongs the number of days after the STAAR test, and by then the students are done. They are exhausted and ready for summer break.

Calendar B is bad because so many people travel to see family at Christmas time, and it would create a lot of student absences when families couldn’t get back in time for school. Especially families that travel to Mexico. I think family time needs to be preserved.

  142. Marti Chaney 11/10/2012, 12:22 pm:

    Option C

  143. Sally Frye 11/10/2012, 11:32 am:

    Option A

  144. Tammy Brown 11/10/2012, 11:16 am:

As a district employee who works a 200 day calendar instead of the teacher calendar of 187 days, I prefer Calendar A. This will at least allow us, as well as those on a 220 day calendar, more time in the summer.

Thanks for always allowing us to have an opinion.

  145. Christy 11/10/2012, 11:07 am:

    Option C then A.
As a teacher, our first break has been a long time coming. It feels good to know we have a whole week off this year for Thanksgiving. We are so ready. I also dread going back to school in the middle of the week after Christmas. I choose option C for the fact we would get a whole week at Thanksgiving and two weeks at Christmas. It’s just better to start back on Mondays. However, I think elementary attendance the last two half days will be a problem with option C.

  146. Laura 11/10/2012, 10:25 am:

    A-Thank you

  147. Whitney Arb 11/10/2012, 9:42 am:

My daughter who will be a Senior prefers option C and my daughter who will be a freshman also prefers option C due to the length of the Thanksgiving Holiday and Christmas Holiday break. The last day of school is in June and this is not an issue for my Senior student and the other children will be just fine attending school for two half days. Not a big deal.

  148. Pete 11/10/2012, 8:52 am:

I prefer option A. Having a week at Thanksgiving is nice, but having 3 weeks off out of 6 during the holidays is scheduled too close together. I understand many families travel during these times and having two weeks around Christmas would provide this time. In addition, having students graduate before they finish their courses seems to lessen the excitement of the occasion, knowing that there are two days left of school; not to mention the difficulty in maintaining focus the later the school year continues. I understand there isn’t a perfect answer, and I appreciate all the hard work that the calendar committee has put into providing viable options.

    • Alicia 11/12/2012, 5:45 pm:

Seniors don’t have to go back for those two half days after graduation.

  149. Susan 11/10/2012, 8:48 am:

    Calendar A

  150. Christina G 11/10/2012, 8:21 am:

    Option A

  151. Elgina Dollar 11/10/2012, 7:48 am:

Either calendar A or B, going into June is just wrong!!

  152. Kristell 11/10/2012, 6:26 am:

I have always said I don’t mind working into june so we have more breaks during the school year. the short breaks help reduce stress that build. The really long summer just gives the kids too much down time from learning. I am giving my vote for C- thanks!

  153. Christina Tribble 11/10/2012, 5:51 am:

    Calendar B

  154. Wendy Cross 11/10/2012, 1:19 am:

Option A works the best for us. Option B is our second pick.

  155. Linda Williams 11/10/2012, 12:28 am:

    B

  156. Maria Savage 11/09/2012, 11:37 pm:

    Option C

  157. Graciela Valdez 11/09/2012, 11:19 pm:

I vote for C , and the 2ND option is A, Thanks for asking.

  158. Trista Wayland 11/09/2012, 9:39 pm:

I prefer Calendar C. I do not mind going into the first 3 days of June for school in order to get the full time off for the holidays. I love having the week for Thanksgiving, it makes no sense to go to school Monday and Tuesday that week. The 2 weeks for Christmas is an absolute must, especially for travels and preparations that come with it. Do not mind the kids going to school for a couple of days in June to get the longer breaks. Plus, most other schools are going into June anyway so that would put us almost on the same schedule, like we are with Spring Break.

  159. NR 11/09/2012, 8:37 pm:

We prefer the calendar Option B; for one thing, because of the full week off at Thanksgiving. Option B also has enough time off at Christmas, even if you are traveling out of state. And, we especially want to be done with school before June. Thanks for the opportunity to weigh in..

    • m willcox 11/09/2012, 9:41 pm:

      Ditto

  160. TLWW 11/09/2012, 8:24 pm:

    Calendar A

  161. S 11/09/2012, 8:24 pm:

    I prefer A… Thank you

  162. StephanieB 11/09/2012, 8:23 pm:

We prefer A. A offers breaks that are spaced out instead of more days off within a month and a half for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Also, no classes in the month of June. Seniors graduate and are done June 1. 2nd choice, is B. Thank you for asking our opinion.

  163. Ritu Kohnke 11/09/2012, 7:55 pm:

Option C would work best for us. Really need the full week of Thanksgiving off when you have out of state family. Thanks for soliciting feedback from all concerned parties.

  164. Lisa 11/09/2012, 7:50 pm:

    C

  165. Shannon 11/09/2012, 7:29 pm:

    Option A

  166. Traci 11/09/2012, 7:14 pm:

    C works best for us.

  167. Traci 11/09/2012, 7:14 pm:

We prefer C -longerThanksgiving and Christmas breaks!

  168. Betty Hoelk 11/09/2012, 6:59 pm:

    I prefer option A.

  169. Vicki Gales 11/09/2012, 6:59 pm:

I vote for Option C. I like the extended Thanksgiving Holiday, as this gives us teachers more time to recoup and prepare for the remaining piece of the semester. I’m also a HUGE fan of the extended Christmas Holiday, for several reasons: 1) I’m having a baby this January, so being able to spend more quality time with him over his first Holiday would be WONDERFUL! 2) I teach special education and having the kids come back for 2 days after a week and half break never works out well. They have such a difficult time getting back into the ‘swing of things’ that it would be a BLESSING for us all. 3) More time off is always nice for teachers as it gives us more time to prepare for our students.
I have no problem going into the first week of June. Most school districts in our area do. I’d rather have more time off during the year for planning and spending time with my family and go into the summer a bit than to get out earlier and have shortened breaks.

  170. Tina Ward 11/09/2012, 6:56 pm:

    Option C

  171. Tina Ward 11/09/2012, 6:50 pm:

    Option C.

  172. Erin DeSmit 11/09/2012, 6:31 pm:

    Option C!

  173. Ginger B. 11/09/2012, 5:51 pm:

option c gives one week break at Thanksgiving and two weeks at Christmas. At both times, this is a much needed break and allows family time or vacations. If seniors don’t come back to school after graduation, then this is a great compromise for all students. I vote option c.

  174. Claudette Cooper 11/09/2012, 5:39 pm:

Option C Full week at Thanksgiving is a must! And two weeks at Christmas is a must! I feel our teachers need this. Love not having Graduation during Memorial Day Weekend!

  175. Marisa 11/09/2012, 5:35 pm:

    I vote for option C!!!!

  176. De Tolleson 11/09/2012, 5:29 pm:

I prefer option A. Not all parents get the whole week off at Thanksgiving and have to arrange child care. 2 weeks off at Christmas is nice to visit family. Also, seniors should not graduate before finishing their classes. Thanks for asking our opinion!

  177. Debbie Kern 11/09/2012, 5:28 pm:

I’m wondering why there is no fall break since the end date is in June and not May? Just curious.

  178. Jody 11/09/2012, 5:20 pm:

Option A first choice, B is second
The sooner we can finish the year after Spring Break and time change with longer days, the better! Everyone feels very ready to be done!
If we could get rid of the half days for elementary students, that would give us 2 more days. Many districts have worked this out, I would LOVE it if we could try it. Lots and lots of negatives and expenses to having those half days.
Thank you for considering our thoughts!

  179. Denise Holmes 11/09/2012, 5:19 pm:

    I choose Calendar A.

  180. Jody 11/09/2012, 5:18 pm:

Option A is first coice B is 2nd. EVERYONE feels so finished after Spring Break and time change with longer spring days… to have to go to school any days in June at all feels like a beating! The sooner we finish the year, the better!
And please oh please can we end the half days for elementary kids! Many many districts have worked this out. I would love it if we could as well, for the students’, teachers’ and parents’ sake! This would give us 2 more days!

  181. Liz Lopez 11/09/2012, 5:07 pm:

Option A, okay with 3 days for thanksgiving as long as Christmas is still 2 weeks and no school after graduation.

  182. Lesley 11/09/2012, 5:06 pm:

    I vote for C.

  183. D 11/09/2012, 5:06 pm:

I prefer Calendar A. Thanks for hearing our voices.

  184. Rey Lopez 11/09/2012, 5:04 pm:

Sorry Option B, just noticed students would still have school after graduation

  185. Michele Price 11/09/2012, 5:03 pm:

    Calendar C please.

  186. alison 11/09/2012, 5:01 pm:

C please. Frankly, I hate summer in Texas, would rather have the months of November and December off and be in school all summer. : )

  187. Rey Lopez 11/09/2012, 5:00 pm:

    Option “C”

  188. Liz Lopez 11/09/2012, 4:59 pm:

    Option C

  189. Kim 11/09/2012, 4:54 pm:

Option C! Students need the full 2 weeks at Christmas and it’s also nice to have the full week of Thanksgiving. All of the options have them going back after Memorial Day so it doesn’t really matter. Option A would be 2nd choice…..PLEASE do not shorten the Christmas break.

  190. Ann Marie 11/09/2012, 4:44 pm:

Option B. Having the full week at Thanksgiving and the way Christmas falls the 1 1/2 weeks in December is fine. Don’t want to have school go into June.

  191. Lorinda Bourn 11/09/2012, 4:39 pm:

I prefer option C, and then A as a second choice. Two weeks at Christmas is important to our family. Thank you!

  192. Sheri H 11/09/2012, 4:37 pm:

I prefer option A…too many people plan vacations starting in June.

  193. A 11/09/2012, 4:35 pm:

    Option A

  194. Schaltas 11/09/2012, 4:30 pm:

    Option C please.

  195. Sherry 11/09/2012, 4:30 pm:

Calendar A looks great! No June school, 2 weeks at Christmas! I like the 2 days before Thanksgiving for lots of arts & crafts and fun activities talking about traditions!

  196. KAREN HAYWORTH 11/09/2012, 4:27 pm:

    I agree with Option C

  197. Elizabeth Tanner 11/09/2012, 4:10 pm:

I choose option C. I have a question though. Why is spring break so early? On every option it was the week of the 10th-14th. I would like to have it the week of the 17th -21st.

  198. Dee C 11/09/2012, 3:53 pm:

I would prefer option A. It is better to end before June. I, also, like have two weeks at Christmas.

  199. Ann 11/09/2012, 3:52 pm:

    My vote is option C

  200. cscott 11/09/2012, 3:22 pm:

    OPTION AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

  201. Patricia Garcia 11/09/2012, 3:22 pm:

    VOTE for C….

  202. Patricia 11/09/2012, 3:20 pm:

As a EA I vote for C,But you dont have to take away MLK day we should still have that day OFF!! Having to 2 weeks off for Thanksgiving and Christmas is very nice..It seem that when we get more days off they always take a day from somewhere durning to school year..

  203. Jose Hernandez 11/09/2012, 2:57 pm:

    I choose option A.
    thanks

  204. Wanda 11/09/2012, 2:55 pm:

    Calendar “C” is my choice.

  205. Wanda 11/09/2012, 2:54 pm:

    Calendar “C” is my choice.

  206. Dora Irigoyen 11/09/2012, 2:32 pm:

I think Option C is by far the best. Staff & students/families need a week at Thanksgiving and 2 full weeks at Christmas. I am also interested to see how this year’s attendence goes with only 1 1/2 weeks of vacation time at Christmas. Thanks for the opportunity to provide feedback!

    • L. Campbell 11/09/2012, 3:20 pm:

I think it’s very important, psychologically, to have the two week break at Christmas, and to be finished by the end of May, so I vote for calendar A!

  207. Angela Wilson 11/09/2012, 2:24 pm:

    I vote A.

  208. Liz 11/09/2012, 2:05 pm:

    I like option A.

Referring to option B: We are already hearing from kids “my parents aren’t making me come to school those two days” (meaning at the end of Christmas break). Please don’t do this shortened Christmas break again next year for this reason. It’s a waste of 2 instructional days when students don’t show up. I’m hoping they do, but I’m betting we have many who don’t come.

I encourage district officials to see what the absence rate across the district is on January 3 & 4.

    • Kim 11/09/2012, 4:57 pm:

I would like to see the attendance rate for the half days on 12/20 and 12/21. The six weeks is not ending until Jan so what’s the motivation to come on those December half days if there are no exams?

  209. Carrie Ansley 11/09/2012, 1:54 pm:

    I vote for A…

  210. Carrie Ansley 11/09/2012, 1:53 pm:

    I vote for A….

  211. Amanda 11/09/2012, 1:34 pm:

    Option B

  212. Carol Meadows 11/09/2012, 1:29 pm:

    I vote for option C

  213. David Rosche 11/09/2012, 1:26 pm:

Option C is the best. So what if we have to go 3 days in June? Better to have a nice holiday at Thanksgiving and Christmas when the weather is nice.

  214. Glenn 11/09/2012, 1:17 pm:

    Option C is my preference

  215. Priscilla Hamilton 11/09/2012, 1:14 pm:

C it’s by far the best option!!

  216. T. Johnson 11/09/2012, 1:10 pm:

Option C. Gives me the opportunity to be with my family at Thanksgiving.

  217. BR 11/09/2012, 1:07 pm:

    Option C

  218. Todd 11/09/2012, 1:06 pm:

I choose Option A. There should be NO SCHOOL in June. This is a chance for families to spend that first week at he beach or on a cruise before the “summer” rates kick in. OPTION C IS THE DEVIL.

  219. Stacy 11/09/2012, 12:38 pm:

    C please!

  220. Brenda Blume 11/09/2012, 12:29 pm:

“C” I prefer more time during the year as our child.

  221. Jeffery 11/09/2012, 12:28 pm:

    A!!! Please

  222. Celina 11/09/2012, 12:17 pm:

    Definitely C!

  223. Jenny 11/09/2012, 12:16 pm:

I like option C. Many of our families will leave town for holidays whether or not we have scheduled days off, so less than a week at Thanksgiving and less than two weeks at Christmas will lead to increased absenteeism.

  224. Jessica 11/09/2012, 12:13 pm:

    Option C please.

  225. Jessica 11/09/2012, 12:00 pm:

I think Option C is best for staff and kids. Staff & students/families need a week at Thanksgiving and 2 full weeks at Christmas. It energizes them for the Spring Semester! Thanks for the opportunity to provide feedback.

  226. Sarah 11/09/2012, 11:58 am:

    Option A

  227. Sherri Taylor 11/09/2012, 11:58 am:

    I vote A

  228. Kathy Harvell 11/09/2012, 11:51 am:

    Option A – please!

  229. Paige 11/09/2012, 11:46 am:

    Option A

  230. Alyson Smith 11/09/2012, 11:45 am:

I don’t think everyone is realizing that version C has us working most of the first week of June?

  231. Robert Douglas 11/09/2012, 11:45 am:

    Vote for C! No brainer!

  232. Shane 11/09/2012, 11:43 am:

    I like option A.

  233. Sandra Zwerg 11/09/2012, 11:24 am:

    I like option B.

  234. Lisa Mitchell 11/09/2012, 11:07 am:

I like Option A. I agree that it makes no sense for the SR’s to graduate before school is actually over!

    • tim Van Etten 11/09/2012, 1:46 pm:

I think Calendar C is the best for us. tahnk you!

  235. DD 11/09/2012, 10:58 am:

My vote is for Option A. Option B doesn’t allow for a full two weeks at Christmas, and Option C doesn’t have us out until June…ugh!

  236. Vicki Rodriquez 11/09/2012, 10:52 am:

    Definitely Option A…

  237. Judith Dallinger 11/09/2012, 10:51 am:

    C please

  238. Jennifer Baer 11/09/2012, 10:51 am:

I vote for A. I like having a full 2 weeks for Christmas and still getting out at the end of May.

  239. Margret 11/09/2012, 10:50 am:

    Option C

  240. Yaneli 11/09/2012, 10:36 am:

    I love option C

  241. Emily 11/09/2012, 10:28 am:

    Calender C!

  242. Alyson Smith 11/09/2012, 10:24 am:

A whole week at Thanksgiving sounds wonderful right now, and I get board home for 2 weeks at Christmas. I relly liike the way it is this year and that is B. I vote for B!

  243. Michelle 11/09/2012, 10:11 am:

I vote Option A- having all of June and July is wonderful!

  244. Rebekah Luckett 11/09/2012, 10:04 am:

    I like option B.

  245. Warren Harris 11/09/2012, 10:04 am:

Option A please. The school year still ends in May, Christmas vacation is extended, allowing for those who travel to come back later in the week, AFTER New Years day.

  246. chelsea 11/09/2012, 10:02 am:

    I prefer option A.

  247. Cindy 11/09/2012, 9:44 am:

I prefer calendar “C”. I believe there is a great liklihood of students missing the two days after Jan. 1st to finish holiday visits-that puts everyone behind, and requires us to reteach what is covered those days. The days after graduation’ in Calendar C are 1/2 days for students, and would be less likely to have concepts taught that would hurt students if they were to miss. Missing school in January is huge.

    Thank you for asking us.

  248. Sarah 11/09/2012, 9:42 am:

    I vote C.

  249. Amelia 11/09/2012, 9:40 am:

    I prefer C.

  250. Shera 11/09/2012, 9:33 am:

Definitely A or C. Having such a short Christmas break this year is going to be hard. Having a short Thanksgiving break is a lot easier than having a shortened Christmas break. Most colleges don’t get the full week off at Thanksgiving either (So in our case, our college student won’t even be home until the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week.) I just don’t feel that I really need Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week off, but I sure will need those days after Christmas and New Years!

With calendar C, if having seniors graduate before school is out causes too much trouble for the high schools, then I would say that A is the best calendar ….. unless graduation can be moved to a later date. In that case C would be fine too!

  251. Kimberly 11/09/2012, 9:29 am:

As teacher, I would prefer option A! After the STAAR, not much learning is done because they are exhausted and can’t handle anymore! The kids are ready for the break and so are the teachers! Going until June 5th, would just be chaotic!

  252. patsy rangel 11/09/2012, 9:22 am:

    I vote for C

  253. Linda 11/09/2012, 9:22 am:

    C !!!!!!!

  254. Susanne 11/09/2012, 9:17 am:

Option A works for me. If not that then Option C – I like having two weeks at Christmas like my child who attends another district!!

  255. Chris 11/09/2012, 9:14 am:

    Option C.

  256. GB 11/09/2012, 9:11 am:

Option C – Thanks for asking our input!

  257. Mike Cheripka 11/09/2012, 9:10 am:

Calendar C….absolutely would rather go a few days into June and have a full week at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas and a full week at Spring Break.

  258. Laura Tippett 11/09/2012, 9:08 am:

As a BISD teacher and parent, I prefer option A with C as my second choice.

    • Irish 11/09/2012, 9:34 am:

      Is that right?????

  259. Cindy Mays 11/09/2012, 9:07 am:

I would prefer A or B. I agree that classes after graduation would be a problem.

  260. Carol 11/09/2012, 9:00 am:

    I perfer option C!

  261. Ashleigh 11/09/2012, 9:00 am:

    I like option C.

  262. Daren 11/09/2012, 8:58 am:

    Option “C” PLEASE!!!!!!

  263. Molly 11/09/2012, 8:57 am:

I think “C” is the best! Option C allows for more family time during the holiday breaks.

  264. Amy Powell 11/09/2012, 8:47 am:

    I prefer option C.

  265. Adrienne Walker 11/09/2012, 8:46 am:

Option C is my vote. Students (and staff) need breaks during the year more than they need to get out for a long summer vacation a few days early!

As a year-round employee I want to thank you for the week off around the July 4th holiday. That provides such a nice break during the long summer months.

  266. shawn 11/09/2012, 8:44 am:

C is better to me , i want 2 weeks at christmas !.

  267. Tamara 11/09/2012, 8:41 am:

    I prefer Option A.

  268. Monica 11/09/2012, 8:41 am:

    Option C

  269. Detra Thomas 11/09/2012, 8:27 am:

    I am for Option C.

  270. Denise 11/09/2012, 8:25 am:

No matter which option is chosen, MLK day is now a staff development day. Of all days to choose from, why take that one? First, Good Friday. Now, MLK.

  271. Debbie 11/09/2012, 8:22 am:

Option C is the one for me! I want more holiday time with my family!
Half days in June is nothing! Option C is the most family friendly option.

  272. Paula Depew 11/09/2012, 8:19 am:

    A

  273. Sandy 11/09/2012, 8:13 am:

I like option B. They’ll get a full week for Thanksgiving holiday and coming back to school on January 2nd, I really can’t see them doing a whole lot with only Thursday and Friday remaining in the week. It’ll take those two days for both teachers and students to get back into it.

  274. Jay 11/09/2012, 8:04 am:

C will do for me and my family.

    • Alcantar 11/09/2012, 8:15 am:

OPTION C! thanksgiving one week, christmas break two weeks!

    • S. Burris 11/09/2012, 8:29 am:

      I like C as well

  275. Beverly 11/09/2012, 7:53 am:

    Option C

  276. Delana Drysdale 11/09/2012, 7:53 am:

Option A please!!! We need a full two weeks at Christmas!

  277. Beverly 11/09/2012, 7:52 am:

    C

  278. Kerensa 11/09/2012, 7:37 am:

Option “C” . As a parent and teacher, option “C” offers more family time during the holidays.

  279. Amy 11/09/2012, 7:32 am:

Every year our input is solicited, but I cannot find anyone who voted for the schedule we have this year so I am a bit skeptical if the voting is taken seriously. Be that as it may, it does not make sense to have seniors graduate before the end of school. Not logically anyhow. I vote for A and will be interested to see if the input solicited results in a vote that reflects that.

    • Lisa 11/09/2012, 8:00 pm:

I agree with Amy, Parents, students and staff all HATE this years schedule and so soliciting input has always been a farce.

  280. Kassandra 11/09/2012, 7:30 am:

    I like option C
Gives them time to enjoy the holiday and spend time with their family.

  281. Lynette Landry 11/09/2012, 7:25 am:

    I choose A

  282. Sheila Maulden 11/09/2012, 7:24 am:

    I like option C.

  283. Sheila Maulden 11/09/2012, 7:23 am:

    I like option C

  284. roberto 11/09/2012, 6:50 am:

    I like C

  285. Kemberly 11/09/2012, 6:45 am:

Option C is the choice. I do not mind the 2 days into June.

  286. Dana 11/09/2012, 4:08 am:

    I like “B”

  287. jan jcacobson 11/09/2012, 12:39 am:

“A”s have always stood for excellence in schools, and with calendar A, it still does! B is good, but calendar C barely passes!

  288. Ted 11/09/2012, 12:20 am:

I like option C, which gives students and teachers more time at the holidays to spend with their families. I think being so determined to finish the year before June 1 and cutting out some of the holidays that other districts get leads to more families and teachers planning their own holidays resulting in high absenteeism.

I also believe there should be a holiday observance between Labor Day and Thanksgiving such as Columbus Day. This would improve morale for teachers who are in staff development the Friday before and the day of Columbus Day while their students are enjoying a 4-day weekend and teachers in other districts are getting a 3-day weekend.

If there was a holiday during the Texas State Fair, perhaps the district wouldn’t feel the need to withhold the traditionally free tickets that the fair has always offered to Texas school teachers.

I thank you for the opportunity to express my opinions.

    • Rachel 11/09/2012, 7:45 am:

I like options B and C. I honestly prefer B. As a staff member and a district parent the time at the holidays is very importnat for me to refresh and recharge and spending that time with my own children reminds me why I do my job- and its importance. The long summer this past year was wonderful. I was able to put my children in extra activities- including a kindergarten prep class for my middle child and a dislexia reading course for my oldest.

      • Shera 11/09/2012, 9:12 am:

Rachel, B is the one that does not give you time during the holidays (at least not during the Christmas holidays.) A and C both give you a longer time at Christmas.

  289. Leslie Lopez 11/08/2012, 11:34 pm:

    Option A

  290. Toni Crawford 11/08/2012, 10:45 pm:

Option A works great for our family. Thanks for your consideration!

  291. meiling Izquierdo 11/08/2012, 10:31 pm:

    Option A

  292. Diane 11/08/2012, 9:45 pm:

    Option C

As a teacher and a parent, I like having the week off for Thanksgiving and the 2 full weeks for Winter break. It’s easier to spend time with family and prepare for the holidays.

  293. Tiffany Gygi 11/08/2012, 9:19 pm:

option A-love 2 weeks at chirstmas and ending in May:)

  294. Deloris Sandoval 11/08/2012, 9:19 pm:

    Option C

  295. Melody 11/08/2012, 9:18 pm:

    Option A please! :)

  296. Kristin Wilkerson 11/08/2012, 8:55 pm:

    option a

  297. Jessica Taylor 11/08/2012, 8:54 pm:

I like option C, those breaks are important for teachers and students, and 2 extra days in June is not that far different than ending on the last day of May.

  298. Lesli Bradley 11/08/2012, 8:50 pm:

As a high school teacher, it is very difficult to maintain instructional integrity when my students are allowed to graduate before the end of school.

Undoubtedly, most of the responses will be from elementary teachers and parents, but option C would have a significant detriment to the education of any upperclassmen, since so many high school classes are mixed.

Many of the career and technology classes could risk students gaining credit for their certifications and lose valuable credential.

Many of my English students would lose valuable instructional time needed to bridge the gap between high school curriculum standards and necessary skills for some elite college programs.

Some students will not graduate on time because they will have not met the requirements in time and our graduation rates could be significantly impacted.

Overall, I think that choices A and B are better options than C, and I fear the impending detriment to AYP scores and college readiness, if C is selected.

    • Ted 11/09/2012, 12:03 am:

Would calendar C work for you if graduation were moved to some time after the last day of school?

    • Rachel 11/09/2012, 7:46 am:

I agree that graduation should happen aftet the last day of school

  299. Clarissa Cassel 11/08/2012, 8:41 pm:

    A ! Thank you!

  300. Frankie 11/08/2012, 8:35 pm:

Thank you for soliciting our feedback. I like calendar B. I especially like the flex day in August – assuming it will be a day where the air is on in the buildings and teachers can prepare their rooms in a little AC. I also like a week at Thanksgiving to allow for travel prior to Thanksgiving Day. Finally the week and a half at Christmas is enough time for families to travel and spend time together and allow respite for all educational stakeholders. Thanks to the committee, as this work CAN NOT possibly be easy.

  301. BR 11/08/2012, 8:24 pm:

    A – please not C

  302. Krista Crabb 11/08/2012, 8:22 pm:

Option A. Thank you for giving us a voice!

  303. Vicky 11/08/2012, 8:16 pm:

    I choose C.

  304. Kelly deLeon 11/08/2012, 7:54 pm:

A is the best option. Please not C! The great advantage to being out in June is being able to vacation while most people still have school (that’s how we did Disney World!) . 1.5 weeks is simply not enough for parents splitting the Holidays.

  305. Angel Patterson 11/08/2012, 7:53 pm:

Option A – Not only do I like the holiday breaks better but I will have a senior next year and dread the thought of my senior having to go to school AFTER graduation.

  306. Cherie Hocevar 11/08/2012, 7:51 pm:

I like “a” or “c”, but, I would really love a year round option!

  307. Micah 11/08/2012, 7:49 pm:

    A

  308. Kimberly Coatney 11/08/2012, 7:31 pm:

Option A would work really well for us. Thank you for asking us to weigh in!

  309. angela smasal 11/08/2012, 7:27 pm:

    Option A

  310. Amanda 11/08/2012, 7:19 pm:

    Option A would be best!

  311. SW 11/08/2012, 7:18 pm:

Option A, PLEASE NOT C, we need to be out in May!!!

  312. Mari 11/08/2012, 7:14 pm:

As a teacher and BISD mother, I prefer option C.

  313. Kathy 11/08/2012, 7:04 pm:

    C

  314. Melissa 11/08/2012, 6:56 pm:

    Definitely B!!
    Second choice would be C.
    Thanks!

  315. Stephanie 11/08/2012, 6:52 pm:

    I prefer option A

  316. Donna 11/08/2012, 6:50 pm:

Thanks for the opportunity to vote for Option C. Many of us, teachers and students, have family in various states, some in opposite directions of the continent. Having this time for both holidays would allow time to visit relatives and still allow a little “down time” from all of the school activities — something we have not had in Birdville since I have been here. Thanks for your working so diligently to give us this choice.

  317. Craig Wilkins 11/08/2012, 6:32 pm:

I prefer option B. It allows them to have a full week at Thanksgiving and they get out in May.

  318. Amy 11/08/2012, 6:30 pm:

    Option A

  319. Dennis Gartman 11/08/2012, 6:14 pm:

Clearly A is the best one for me. 3 days of Thanksgiving, 2 weeks of Christmas, and get out in May. Perfect.

  320. Melissa F 11/08/2012, 6:13 pm:

Option A is best for us seeing as we will have senior next year our biggest concern is graduation being after the last day of school.

  321. Melanie 11/08/2012, 6:08 pm:

    Calendar C

  322. Kathy Welch 11/08/2012, 6:07 pm:

We like option C,thanks for giving us a opportunity to give input!

  323. Julie 11/08/2012, 6:05 pm:

we like in this order – B, then A, then C. B – Like having 2 long breaks for Thanksgiving and Christmas (instead of 1 short and 1 long) and prefer to get out of school before June.

  324. Sandra smith 11/08/2012, 6:03 pm:

    I like calendar B

  325. Charity 11/08/2012, 5:53 pm:

I prefer option C and A is my second choice. Not a fan of B.

  326. Heather 11/08/2012, 5:31 pm:

A works best for our family

  327. Heather 11/08/2012, 5:30 pm:

I like calendar A. Thank you for your hard work on this.

  328. Jennifer H 11/08/2012, 5:29 pm:

I prefer Option A. Thanks for the opportunity to voice an opinion on this.

  329. Charles Word 11/08/2012, 5:29 pm:

I prefer option A. Most parents don’t have an entire week off for Thanksgiving, so I don’t see any reason for them to need an entire week off. I also prefer for them to get out in May. I prefer option C as my second choice. I don’t care for the week of Thanksgiving, but we need the 2 weeks at Christmas.

  330. ewhitehead 11/08/2012, 5:23 pm:

Option C–those longer holiday breaks are necessary. Going into June is not a problem.

  331. Lori Goeringer 11/08/2012, 5:20 pm:

I would choose calendar C. I think its important to give the kids time to spend with family around the holidays.

  332. Susan Watts 11/08/2012, 5:08 pm:

I prefer option A or B, I dont like the getting out in June, for parents that are split it makes it hard for the other parent to realize there is still 2 days of school to attend.

  333. Jayne 11/08/2012, 5:05 pm:

Option C seems to balance days off each semester. Jan 1 is still considered a major holiday and folks are still traveling.

  334. bcat 11/08/2012, 5:03 pm:

    I prefer C.

  335. Rick 11/08/2012, 5:02 pm:

I prefer Option C with a full week at Thanksgiving and two at Christmas. This year is going to be tough on teachers and students with only seven school days off at Christmas.

  336. Anna Naquin 11/08/2012, 4:58 pm:

    Option C

  337. Sharon Hindman 11/08/2012, 4:57 pm:

Actually, all three were acceptable choices for everyone……. When we are raising our kids, we have to make certain allowances concerning important things like education and our kids future. Parents can always adapt their schedules accordingly… it’s our job to do the best of our abilities for our family. End of story…. what ever schedule is selected, we adapt and move on… Thank you for very generously working all these schedules out. Lots of painstaking time to do so…… But, unfortunately, not every one will be happy with the things offered………

    • Beth 11/09/2012, 5:00 pm:

      Well said.
The high school I attended had the senior classes walked graduation a week before school ended every single year. We knew the requirements, as do all seniors, that we still had to pass our classes and make the grades for college and getting the actual diploma. I know it would be chaos though for any high school to implement a new and possibly one time only change, so the district needs to take the HS principals and counselors comments to heart. It will be their responsibility to make that happen and happen with as little turmoil as possible. BUT it can be done and was done yearly where I grew up.

  338. Brandie Garner 11/08/2012, 4:46 pm:

I vote for Option A or C. The two week Christmas break is necessary for split families. The whole week of Thanksgiving is neither here nor there.

  339. Sunshine Brown 11/08/2012, 4:45 pm:

Definately Full Week at Thanksgiving and Full 2 weeks for Christmas !!
    OPTION C !!

  340. Jannet Hiles 11/08/2012, 4:43 pm:

I prefer option A, thank you

  341. Diane 11/08/2012, 4:43 pm:

Option A is the best choice

  342. Sherry 11/08/2012, 4:39 pm:

B is awesome! It gives the full week for family Thanksgiving travel, and ends in May. Our family takes vacation the last weekend in May every year, so i would prefer not to have to go back in June for 2 HALF DAYS.

  343. Maria 11/08/2012, 4:37 pm:

I like option C because I like the full week at Thanksgiving and the two full weeks break for christmas.

  344. Michelle Word 11/08/2012, 4:31 pm:

I would prefer option A. Option A is the calendar that we are more familiar with and has the holidays as we were previously used to (this year, the students have all of Thanksgiving week off, which puts a hardship on some families to plan for additional daycare). I think kids really need the 2 week break at Christmas just to decompress and prepare for the upcoming semester, and traditionally, summer has started before June. I know for our family, especially, this is very important as we travel or have family commitments that would require our children missing school. However, if it fell between option B or C, then option C would be my next preference. While it may not be as ideal because students would be in school until the first week in June, it is far more preferable than option B which only provides students with a week and a half off at Christmas.

    • Michelle Word 11/08/2012, 4:36 pm:

I also would like to thank you for the opportunity to have a say in what my children’s schedule will look like for the upcoming year. Thank you!

  345. Terri Pipes 11/08/2012, 4:21 pm:

I prefer Option A, I don’t like the short Christmas break or getting out in June.

  346. Tammy Wright 11/08/2012, 4:19 pm:

I like C. As mentioned by others, most other schools do not get out till June. For family purposes, the full week at Thanksgiving and 2 Weeks at Christmas is a vacation that can be used wisely by all. And what I have found over the last couple of years and I like is that everyone’s Spring Break falls at the same time and that helps with teachers whose children attend in other districts. I know it is difficult for me to find a place for my children to go when I am in school and they are out.

  347. Vicki 11/08/2012, 4:18 pm:

I prefer B or C. Doesn’t make sense to have students at school the week of Thanksgiving on only Mon and Tuesday. Many parents travel and choose to take their kids out of school on these days. Also, as the female of my house, trying to prepare for a meal and guests in only one day (given the many extra hours after and prior to official duty time required this year)…..is very difficult. Not a true rest at all…love having the entire week to prepare for the holidays is wonderful.

    • Rachel 11/09/2012, 7:51 am:

I am also interested to see how this year’s attendence goes with only a week and a half of vacation time at Christmas. I have taught here in BISD for a few years and I know we have always had several students leave a week early and come back late due to traveling to see family. Some of these students are traveling aboard so it does make since for them to stay more than just a couple days.

  348. Anita 11/08/2012, 4:11 pm:

    Option A

  349. crystal burnett 11/08/2012, 4:10 pm:

    I choice option b.

  350. Johnje Jasper 11/08/2012, 4:08 pm:

I like option A because I see no point in having a full week off for Thanksgiving if it will shorten our Christmas Break or make us get out of school later.
I wish we were able to start at the beginning of August so we could get out of school earlier.

  351. Haley M 11/08/2012, 4:04 pm:

    A or C. NOT B!!

  352. Denise 11/08/2012, 4:01 pm:

I prefer Option C. Gives parents options for travel without disrupting school days.

  353. Cara 11/08/2012, 4:01 pm:

As a high school student, I prefer option C. With the heavy workload we are presented with, I would prefer having more days off to allow for us to have a break. The extra days in June I would not mind considering our breaks.

I prefer either A or C. I too, really enjoy a week off at Thanksgiving, but only having a week and a half off for Christmas is hard for our family. We have out of town grandparents that get a shortened amount of time with the grandkids when they go back to school on the 2nd. And if we were to travel to see them, it shortens the amount of time we have to spend with our In-town grandparents. Two weeks off gives us plenty of time to share.

I like option C. It gives families options vacation times. Children wouldn’t have to miss school.

I like A or C with 2 full weeks at Christmas… In my case… my sons spend Christmas with their father in Canada… So it’s almost impossible for them to be attending school starting Jan 2nd with the calendar B.

I prefer option B, i love the full week at Thanksgiving! Also, always liked being out before memorial day.

None of the calendars allow for the schools to be out by Memorial Day. The holiday in question falls on 5/26 in 2014 and school will either be dismissed on 5/30 or 6/3.

Love full thanksgiving week and Christmas. It seems all other districts get out in June as well so it would put us on the same schedule.

  377. Robin McClure 11/08/2012, 3:20 pm:

I prefer option B. I like the full week at Thanksgiving and am fine with having kids return to school on Jan. 2. I like being out before Memorial Day. Great job on presenting three varied options based on the confines of law.

    Thank you!
