Congratulations to 2022 Teachers of the Year! Kelly Campbell, The Academy at C.F. Thomas Elementary, was named the District Elementary Teacher of the Year; Liz Griffin, North Richland Middle School, was named the District Secondary Teacher of the Year; and Rebekah Beaver, Smithfield Elementary, was named BISD’s First-Year Teacher of the Year.

Superintendent Announces Haltom High School Head Girls Basketball Coach 

BISD Superintendent, Dr. Gayle Stinson, recently announced the appointment of Shannon Fears to the position of head girls basketball coach for Haltom High School.  

Fears has been the assistant junior varsity and varsity basketball coach at Haltom High School since 2008, and ninth-grade and assistant varsity volleyball coach at Haltom High School from 2008–19. Before Haltom High, she was an assistant coach for the University of North Texas women’s basketball team from 2007–08, and assistant varsity girls basketball coach, head freshman girls basketball coach, freshman volleyball coach and junior varsity softball coach at Carroll Senior High from 2004–08. 

Academically, she serves at the special education department chair at Haltom High. 

As a collegiate basketball player, Fears received the following awards:  

  • Four-year letter winner 1997–2002;  
  • Sunbelt Conference First Team All-Conference in 2002; 
  • Voted as team’s Best Offensive Player in 2002; and  
  • Earned the team’s Leading Rebounder Award in 2002.  

Fears received her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. 

BISD Superintendent Announces Administrative Transfers for 2022–23 

Sherri Gamble

Birdville ISD Superintendent Dr. Gayle Stinson announced the appointment of Sherri Gamble as principal of North Richland Middle School. She is replacing Steve Ellis, who is retiring. 

Gamble has been principal at Foster Village Elementary since 2019. Prior to Foster Village Elementary, she was the assistant principal at Watauga Elementary from 2015–19, assistant principal at Stowe Elementary from 2012–15, the school librarian at Stowe Elementary from 2007–12, and a third- and fifth-grade teacher at Stowe Elementary from 1992–2007.  

She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of North Texas. 

Dr. Stinson also announced the administrative transfer of the following assistant principals for the
2022–23 school year. “Moving staff that are highly respected on their campus is always a difficult decision,” Stinson said. “However, these individuals were selected to provide opportunities for personal growth and to offer additional campus experience as they prepare to be a campus principal at a future time in their career. The development of future leaders is one of my top priorities.”
