BISD Students Go Fishing For STEM Success

How does a whiffle ball lead to a career in engineering? In Huntsville, Texas, aspiring engineers faced a design challenge created by engineers from ConocoPhillips. Based on real-life situations in which wellbores are blocked by material known as “fish,” the challenge was part of the 34th annual State STEM Competition, sponsored by ConocoPhillips and held at the Forest Glen Camp in Huntsville. Students used paper clips, clay, and other materials to explore methods for removing wellbore blockages.

The following BISD students placed in the competition:

Haltom High School

Cotton Patch Restaurant Honors Culinary Arts Students

For several years, kids teaching kids℠ (opens in new window) has been engaging kids and families in better nutrition at home. Now, they have expanded their reach to include healthy options when dining out. A Medical City Children’s Hospital registered dietitian is helping restaurateurs turn snack recipes on the kids teaching kids℠ website into Kids Fit meals, featuring fruits and vegetables.

BISD’s Culinary Arts (opens in new window) program had a culinary team’s recipe selected to be featured on the Cotton Patch Restaurant children’s menu. Congratulations to our culinary team. #BISDShines
