District Procedures for Inclement Weather

Birdville ISD is dedicated to the safety of students and staff. With the onset of winter, and the threat of snow and ice, it is important for the BISD community to know the District has an established plan to determine whether schools will be open, delayed or closed. The District attempts to make a decision about delaying or closing as soon as possible, usually by 5:30 a.m.

If the superintendent determines to delay or close school, the District’s phone messaging system will be activated, and the major radio and television stations will be notified. Also, the District will post this information on the District’s website, Facebook, Twitter, and Birdville ISD News. BISD only posts these notifications if school is delayed or closed — not if it is open as usual.

Update on COVID/Bad Weather Days

BISD was closed Tuesday, Jan. 18 and Wednesday, Jan. 19 for COVID, and Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4 due to inclement weather. The District’s 2021–22 calendar has enough instructional minutes as required by state statutes. Therefore, Jan. 18–19 and Feb. 3–4 will not have to be made up by staff or students.

• Friday, Feb. 11 is still a student half day/teacher prep day.
• Monday, Feb. 21 is still a student holiday with campus staff participating in professional development. District and departmental staff will continue with regularly scheduled activities.
• Friday, April 15 is still a staff/student holiday.

If there are additional closures due to weather, the District may have to reevaluate the use of inclement weather makeup days.
