MIAA Hall of Fame Honoree

Congratulations to Lady Buff Basketball Alum, Keuna Flax, on her Hall of Fame honor from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).

Did you know she amassed 2,400+ points in her career at Haltom High School?

Keuna Flax | Central Missouri
Basketball (2012-14)
Although she only played for two seasons, the mark Keuna Flax left on the Jennies Basketball program is undeniable. Flax was just the fourth two-time All-American in team history with appearances on the first team by both the WBCA and Division II Bulletin. She was also a two-time All-MIAA selection, earning first team accolades in both 2012-13 and 2013-14. Her teams had a 50-11 record in two seasons, winning the MIAA regular season in 2013-14 and advancing to back-to-back NCAA tournaments. Flax’s 19.9 points per game average is the second-most in Jennies history, and her 54 games are the fewest of any member of in the 1,000-point club. As a senior, Flax was named the MIAA Player of the Year and the UCM Dr. Peggy Martin award winner.

BHS student receives State Board of Education recognition

Congratulations to Zane Sheffield, Birdville High School junior, for being named a State Board of Education (SBOE) 2022 Student Heroes Award recipient for SBOE District 11. He is one of only 15 students selected statewide for the acts of kindness, charity and service he offers others.

Zane began organizing charitable efforts back when he was a student at Smithfield Middle School. He started the Back the Homeless Club at Smithfield. Out of the club, a Slackathon was started that raises money to provide specially-made backpacks for the homeless. Also, instead of a traditional 5K, he organized a 0.5K where he had snacks, drinks, etc. along the short path. This year’s event raised around $4,000, where half of the proceeds will go to help students within Birdville.

Zane was nominated by Cathy Shaw.
