SPEC MIX JR. BRICKLAYER 500 North Texas regional championship

Congratulations to Birdville Center of Technology and Advanced Learning students, Blake Raley, bricklayer, (right) and Ben Jurica, tender (left), for winning First Place at the 2022 SPEC MIX JR. BRICKLAYER 500 North Texas regional championship.

The SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® and JR. BRICKLAYER 500 contests are the masonry industry’s most celebrated events for highlighting the attributes and passion that define the makings of a great mason: SKILL, SPEED, and STAMINA.  The JR. BRICKLAYER 500 builds on SPEC MIX’s commitment to “KEEPING THE TRADE STRONG” by uniting with local masonry contractors, instructors and associations to provide a rewarding experience for the industry’s next generation skilled craftsmen.

Judged like the journeymen event, JR. BRICKLAYER 500 competitors (masonry high school students and apprentices) are challenged by a 20-minute clock and a 9’ 4” starter wall to showcase their skills, compete for prizes and prove they’ll soon be ready to claim the title of “World’s Best Bricklayer.”

Birdville High School Alum Gets Third Shutout of the Season at Ouachita Baptist University

Goalkeeper of the Week
Michele Snow

After collecting a pair of complete-game shutouts on the road, Ouachita Baptist University senior
Michele Snow has once again been named the Great American Conference (GAC) Goalkeeper of the Week.

This is Snow’s second GAC weekly honor this season, and seventh overall for her career.

Snow started the week with her third shutout of the season against Southern Nazarene after her team scored twice in the second half to earn the 2‒0 win over the Crimson Storm. The Birdville High School Alum and the Tigers limited SNU to just one shot on goal in the game, which she grabbed for a save. Two days later, Snow and the Tigers battled Oklahoma Baptist to a scoreless draw. She had five saves in the game, and collected her fourth shutout of the year, which was the 14th overall for her career.
