NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – Senator Kelly Hancock has named Jared Henry of Hurst as the recipient of the 2015-2016 Texas Armed Services Scholarship for Senate District 9.

“Jared is an exceptional and disciplined young leader,” said Senator Hancock. “I have no doubt he’ll continue to make our community proud as he serves in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and the United States Air Force.”

Henry plans to work as an aeronautical engineer in the Air Force, continuing a family legacy of military service. His great-grandfather served in the Navy during World War I, and his grandfather and two great-uncles served in the Army during the Korean War.

“Serving my country is meaningful to me,” Henry said. “I see it as my duty to protect the very principles that built this country. Because of the generosity of Senator Hancock by way of the Texas Armed Services Scholarship, I can now focus on my academics and training in the Corps.”

The Texas Armed Services Scholarship, administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, was created by the Texas Legislature in 2009 to assist promising students from throughout the state who are committed to education and military service.
