Eric Perry, 2013 graduate of Birdville High School, is the drum major for the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps from Madison, WI. Drum and Bugle Corps are marching band’s equivalent to NFL teams—marching bands on a professional level. Recently, at the Drum Corps International World Championships in Indianapolis, Eric’s corps placed eighth and he was named the winner of the Jim Jones Leadership Award for Outstanding Drum Majors.

Senator Hancock Names Birdville High Graduate Texas Armed Services Scholarship Recipient
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – Senator Kelly Hancock has named Jared Henry of Hurst as the recipient of the 2015-2016 Texas Armed Services Scholarship for Senate District 9.
“Jared is an exceptional and disciplined young leader,” said Senator Hancock. “I have no doubt he’ll continue to make our community proud as he serves in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and the United States Air Force.”
Henry plans to work as an aeronautical engineer in the Air Force, continuing a family legacy of military service. His great-grandfather served in the Navy during World War I, and his grandfather and two great-uncles served in the Army during the Korean War.
“Serving my country is meaningful to me,” Henry said. “I see it as my duty to protect the very principles that built this country. Because of the generosity of Senator Hancock by way of the Texas Armed Services Scholarship, I can now focus on my academics and training in the Corps.”
The Texas Armed Services Scholarship, administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, was created by the Texas Legislature in 2009 to assist promising students from throughout the state who are committed to education and military service.

Gabby Nelson Named WFAA’s Chevy Female Student/Athlete of the Year
Gabby Nelson, 2015 Birdville High School graduate, was awarded the WFAA Chevy Female Student/Athlete of the Year. The WFAA High School Sports Special airs at 11 p.m. June 14. Nelson will play basketball for Yale University in the fall. She was nominated by Birdville’s Head Girls Basketball Coach Amy Ingram.
