BCTAL Wins Top Honors at TAFE

Education and Training students from the Birdville Center of Technology and Advanced Learning (BCTAL) recently won top honors at the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) state competition at Texas Tech University. The competitive events are directly related to the teaching profession and require advanced skills in planning, understanding curriculum and delivering instruction. These students will advance to the Future Educators Association National Conference in Washington, DC April 22–26.

  • Rachel Jefferies won first place in Public Speaking and $2,200 in scholarships from TAFE and Texas Tech.
  • Michaela Mais and Abby Pursley won second place for their technology video.
  • Jennifer Strawn, Shannon McHugh and Meredith Stonecipher won second place for their “Inside Our Schools” video.
  • Meagan Watson, Elexis Stanley and Adriana Medina won third place for researching learning challenges associated with Autism.
  • Jesse Jasso won fourth place for lesson planning and delivery­­ – Career and Technology Education (CTE) lesson.
  • Meredith Stonecipher won fifth place for lesson planning and delivery ­­­­– Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) lesson.

Two Student Films Accepted into SXSW

Birdville ISD’s Audio/Video Production Department is proud to announce that two student films were accepted into the 2015 South by Southwest Film Festival as part of the High School Shorts program.

These are the 22nd and 23rd entries in the department’s 10-year history of submitting films to South by Southwest, and its third and fourth festival acceptances of the year, following entries into Michigan’s Future of Cinema Festival and California’s ITSA Film Festival.

Local law enforcement agencies help prepare students for competition

On Feb. 7, the Haltom City Police Department, North Richland Hills Police Department, and Highland Park Police, Fire and Rescue will be working with students from BISD’s Forensic Science program to prepare them for the SkillsUSA state competition. This will take place at Shannon High School from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. These departments are setting up and running crime scenes, building search, CPR/First Aid scenarios, felony traffic stops and multiple individual Criminal Justice competitions. BCTAL | Adult Education Courses Spring 2015

Birdville ISD has adult education classes scheduled for the spring that empower individuals to become self-sufficient, with skills necessary for future employment and personal success. Classes are: Introduction to Computers, Computer Applications, and Web Basics. Classes are from 6–8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning Monday, Jan. 26. Classes end March 25.
