Three Birdville Center of Technology and Advanced Learning Culinary Arts students have been working diligently with Medical City Children’s Hospital nutritionists developing a healthy children’s plate and competing for a spot on the Cotton Patch Café menu. Each team must meet a long list of nutritional criteria while making a plate that is appealing to children. On Oct. 6, BISD’s team competed in a live demonstration format in Dallas. On Tuesday, Oct. 23, they found out that THEY WON! Team members are Andrea Phillips and Tricia Roberts from Haltom High, and Rhonda Ontiveros from Richland High.
Their menu items will soon be appearing on Cotton Patch Café’s menus along with the students’ names and Birdville Center of Technology and Advanced Learning.
The winning dish was “Chicka-Bites Din-Din,” a plate complete with grilled chicken bites, Avocado Jumble, and Nice-Cream Dessert.
