Birdville ISD Announces Updated 2021 Graduation Details

Senior Class of 2021 News

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Birdville ISD has announced changes in the dates, times and locations for graduation ceremonies of the class of 2021.

Friday, May 21 – Thomas Coliseum

8:00 a.m.:  Haltom High School
12:00 p.m.:  Richland High School

These changes are being made to:

  • Provide opportunity to possibly increase attendance if local and state guidelines permit;
  • Maximize the number of family members, guests or attendees; and
  • Allow traveling families more time, and hopefully more affordable travel rates, by having the events take place prior to the Memorial Day weekend.

Important Dates for Parents to Notify Campus of Change in Preferred Instructional Option

Save the Dates

A parent/guardian requesting to change from face-to-face to online learning or from online learning to face-to-face learning may do so no later than the Friday of the fifth week of each six weeks grading period. This will give campuses five school days plus four weekend days to change formats and make scheduling changes if needed. Call your student’s campus no later than the date listed below for each six weeks period. Campuses need to be notified only if parents/guardians want to change instructional methods.

Deadlines for submitting change requests:

  • Monday, Dec. 7 to Friday, Dec. 11 for the fourth six weeks (Classes begin Jan. 5)
  • Monday, Feb. 1 to Friday, Feb. 5 for the fifth six weeks (Classes begin Feb. 16)
  • Monday, March 22 to Friday, March 26 for the sixth six weeks (Classes begin April 5)

For Shannon High School, deadlines for submitting change requests:

  • Monday, Dec. 7 to Friday, Dec. 11 for the third nine weeks (Classes begin Jan. 5)
  • Monday, March 1 to Friday, March 5 for the fourth nine weeks (Classes begin March 22)

Fall 2020 Semester Exams Suspended

FYI

After a lengthy discussion with stakeholders, BISD Superintendent Dr. Darrell Brown, and the superintendent’s Cabinet approved the recommendation to suspend first semester exams in December 2020. The rationale behind this decision was to recapture valuable instructional time typically spent in review and use that time instead to cover content and skills that students missed due to COVID–19 school closures. Data shows that our students have lost valuable instruction, and the gaps in academic performance are real. Thus, this redirection of valuable instructional time is one way to regain lost ground.

TEA has given districts guidance on addressing the failure of online learners

TEA Logo

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has recognized that many students across the state are not experiencing academic success in a remote learning environment. When necessary, TEA has provided guidance for districts to be able to move a student that is unsuccessful in remote learning to face-to-face learning, which is what the District feels is the best learning environment for academic success. Beginning Nov. 30, Birdville ISD will notify families of the recommended change of learning environment based on their child’s lack of engagement in remote learning and/or lack of academic progress.
