Bond22 Update – Smith Elementary

We’re pleased to share updates on several ongoing projects approved by voters in the November 2022 bond. This update deals with construction of the new David E. Smith Elementary campus, located at the corner of Haltom Road and Stephanie Drive in Haltom City.

Early in 2023 Birdville ISD began working with architects to design the new Smith Elementary campus. During the evaluation of the construction site, it was determined that the new building would need to be situated in the same location as the existing building. Therefore, the Smith and Francisco campuses were combined at the Francisco Elementary site beginning with the 2023-24 school year. This allowed construction to begin without the added safety concerns of having students go to school on the construction site.

With the foundation and most of the parking lots poured the community should begin to see the steel structure going up very soon. As work progresses, you may also notice that the main entrance to the new building has been relocated from Haltom Road to Stephanie Drive.

The new David E. Smith Elementary building is scheduled to be completed in summer 2025, with the school opening in August 2025. Completion of the new building during the summer allows the District to move teacher materials to the new campus without disturbing school operations.

We’d like to extend our thanks to the students, parents, teachers, campus staff, and communities around both the new construction and current school sites for your patience during this time.

After the move to the new building is complete, the old W.T. Francisco Elementary building will be shut down, and the District will determine the future of the aging facility.
