BISD exceeds state in all areas of ACT

ACT scores for 2012 were released today, and BISD’s composite score of 21.4 for English, mathematics, reading and science is higher than the state average of 20.9. Average scores on the individual portions of the tests were:

·        English – BISD scored 20.3 as compared to the state at 19.8;
·        Mathematics – BISD scored 21.8 as compared to the state at 21.5;
·        Reading – BISD scored 21.5 as compared to the state at 21.0; and
·        Science – BISD scored 21.5 as compared to the state at 20.9.

Individual campus scores were 22.1 for Birdville High, 19.4 for Haltom High, and 22.5 for Richland High. A total of 501 BISD students took the test in 2012, which is a 20 percent increase over the number of students tested in the district in 2011.

“BISD is proud of the students who continue to show improvement on state and national tests,” said Superintendent Dr. Darrell G. Brown. “Birdville is committed to continuous improvement, and we are implementing curriculum improvement in our pre-advanced placement and advanced placement courses and content areas to improve college readiness.”
