Discover Birdville 2020 Cancellation

Discover Birdville Canceled

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community, Birdville ISD has decided that Discover Birdville will NOT be held on Saturday, March 21. If it is possible to reschedule this event later in the spring, we will share details through our various communications channels.

BISD will continue to coordinate with public health professionals on how to best protect our students and staff during this evolving health situation. We will continue to keep our BISD family informed.

Birdville ISD Closed until March 27

Important Information

This morning, Tarrant County Public Health Department recommended a  two-week closure of all schools in Tarrant County to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. After collaborating with state and county health officials and other education leaders this morning, Superintendent

Dr. Darrell Brown announced that Birdville ISD will be closed March 16–27, along with the cancelation of all extracurricular activities and school events during the same period. We will continue to evaluate the situation throughout this closure before making any other long-term announcements.

The health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority. The goals of this announced closure are to help prevent the spread of disease and to give our staff additional time to plan for continuity of services should it become necessary for public schools to close for a longer period. We ask each of you to do your part to help prevent the spread of disease by limiting your attendance at social gatherings and large public events. Wash your hands regularly and isolate yourself if you begin experiencing symptoms like fever, coughing or shortness of breath. Information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Tarrant County Health Department is available on our website. The cancellation of mass gathering events can dramatically help flatten the curve for the spread of the coronavirus disease.

We acknowledge that an unexpected school closure creates a hardship on our parents and staff because of work, childcare and other considerations. But we hope you know our efforts coming to this decision have been done with the best interests of everyone involved. We also know and understand that many students rely on our schools for meals and support. To that end, we are exploring options on how we may assist during this time. Please continue to check our website for further updates.

Some BISD employees may need to be available to work when requested during this closure. For those asked to come to work, appropriate safety precautions will be taken. We will communicate directly with staff members regarding their specific roles and responsibilities in our prevention planning.

Information still to come from the Texas Education Agency includes guidance for course credit, compulsory attendance, accountability standards and school funding. The Superintendents and district leaders in North Texas eagerly await guidance on the waiver process and other steps to support the continued education of our students for the rest of the 2019–2020 school year.

Holiday Heights Elementary fourth graders travel to Austin

Holiday Heights Elementary fourth graders travel to Austin on an Education in Action Discover Texas Field Trip

Fourth graders from Birdville ISD’s Holiday Heights Elementary traveled to Austin on an Education in Action Discover Texas Field Trip, Friday, January 24, 2020, to experience what they are learning in Texas History. Students visited the Texas State Capitol and the Bullock Texas State History Museum.

During the charter bus ride to Austin, students discussed why Texans are so proud of their unique heritage and participated in activities and games in preparation for their visit. In Austin the students visited the Texas State Capitol where their legislators, The Honorable Kelly Hancock, State Senator, District 9 and The Honorable Stephanie Klick, State Representative, District 91, office. Students saw first-hand where Texas laws are made as they toured the State Capitol including the Senate and House of Representatives chambers. At the Bullock Texas State History Museum students traveled back in time through the Texas Revolution and learned about the events that created our Lone Star identity. The students’ visit to the museum concluded at the multi-sensory Texas Spirit Theater with the Star of Destiny where they saw and experienced the history of our great state including a gusher exploding from an East Texas oil derrick and the takeoff of Saturn V as seen from Mission Control at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston.

”Education in Action’s Discover Texas Field Trips are based on the understanding that the most effective way for students to learn is through experience,” stated Lacey Phillips, Discover Texas Field Trips Director. ”Student activities during Discover Texas Field Trips reinforce and supplement Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) learning objectives in fun and hands-on ways at significant Texas sites that bring the content to life.”

Education in Action’s Discover Texas Field Trips make it easy for teachers to take their third, fourth, or fifth grade classrooms on organized, fun, and educational site-based learning experiences. Discover Texas Field Trip staff members handle all details, including round-trip charter bus transportation, reservations, and TEKS-based program curriculum, so participating teachers can focus on their students and making connections between the experience and what students are learning in the classroom.
