Winter Weather Emergency Procedures

Winter Weather Procedures

Birdville ISD is dedicated to the safety of students and staff. With the onset of winter, and the threat of snow and ice, it is important for the BISD community to know the District has an established plan to determine whether schools will be open, delayed or closed. The District attempts to make a decision about delaying or closing as early as possible, usually by 5:30 a.m.

If the superintendent determines to delay or close school, the District’s phone messaging system will be activated and the major radio and television stations will be notified. The District will also post this information on the District’s website, Facebook, Twitter, Birdville ISD News, and the District’s main line at 817-547-5700. BISD only posts these notifications if school is delayed or closed — not if it is open as usual.

Winter Weather: Will you receive your call?

In the case of winter weather, Birdville ISD is prepared to call parents and staff to inform them if the District will be closed. Don’t miss your call. Please log in and verify the primary phone number listed for you in Skyward Family Access (for parents) and the main phone number in MUNIS Employee Self Service (for staff) on the staff web page. For these types of calls, the system will only dial one primary/main number. If the field is left blank, no call will be made. Please make sure the appropriate number is listed in the system.

Important Information for Wednesday, February 25

#BISDAlert The past two days, the winter weather came in early enough for BISD to make an educated decision early in the evening concerning the closure of school on Monday, Feb. 23 and Tuesday, Feb. 24. However, that does not appear to be the case for the winter weather predicted for Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Since the National Weather Service is unsure on the track of the approaching weather, BISD will probably not make a final decision before early Wednesday morning. If the track of the storm moves north of us, they predict we will only get rain. If it moves south of us, they predict we might not get any precipitation. If it moves over the metroplex, they predict we could see 2-4 inches of snow.

Our desire is to get students and staff back to school, but we will once again make a decision based on student and staff safety.

If BISD decides to delay or close Wednesday, Feb. 25, the District will once again call homes, contact local media, and place updates on the District’s website, Facebook and Twitter beginning at 5:30 a.m.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we strive to make the best decision for everyone involved.
