2011 Gold Performance Acknowledgement (GPA) Awards

The 2011 Gold Performance Acknowledgement (GPA) awards of the state accountability system were announced recently by the Texas Education Agency. A total of 55 GPAs was awarded to 24 of the 31 BISD campuses and two additional award was earned at the district level. The Gold Performance Acknowledgment system recognizes districts and campuses for high performance on indicators other than those used to determine accountability ratings. Acknowledgments are given for high performance in 15 areas, including attendance rate, advanced course completion, SAT/ACT testing, Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate testing, college readiness, graduation under the Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Program, TAKS commended performance, and TAKS comparable improvement.

Congratulations to the Birdville High School Mighty Hawk Band for qualifying to compete in the 4A State Marching Contest. They will compete on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.  The band finished third at the UIL Area B Contest earning them a trip to the 4A State Marching Contest.

Birdville ISD’s Athletics Department Annual Hall of Honor Dinner

Birdville ISD’s Athletics Department annual Hall of Honor dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the Fine Arts/Athletics Complex. The 2011 inductees are:  Joe Angell, Birdville High, 1951; Kelly Blackwell, Richland High, 1987; Sonny Campbell, Haltom High, 1962; Mark Howe, Richland High, 1973; Michelle Reasor, Richland High, 1993; and Bill Wimberly, Richland High, 1975. “A Touch of Class” is an opportunity for students, staff, parents and community members to recognize BISD employees for the positive work they do for children and the district.

When “A Touch of Class” nomination is received, a certificate along with a copy of the nomination will be sent to the supervisor of the honoree. The supervisor will determine the appropriate time and place to recognize the employee with their certificate. In addition, random comments will be selected to be shared on the district’s Web site as well as in the “B-News” and the employee newsletter, “e-nlightened.”
