In\u00a0spring 2020, Birdville ISD leadership chose to change the school\u2019s mascot to an identity befitting its rich traditions in a modern and relevant way. Richland High School is now identified as the Richland Royals.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>To create a new graphic identity representative of \u201cRoyals,\u201d the District enlisted\u00a0BrandEra, a\u00a017-year-old branding agency,\u00a0with the unusual expertise of\u00a0public school\u00a0marketing and brand development.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initial need was to bring to life&nbsp;exactly&nbsp;what a Royal is. In a highly responsive timeframe,&nbsp;BrandEra&nbsp;facilitated Zoom focus group meetings with students, school leaders and community members&nbsp;to hear their opinions.&nbsp;Upon this feedback,&nbsp;a variety of mascot&nbsp;samples were presented, being mindful to&nbsp;key&nbsp;descriptors&nbsp;such as&nbsp;<strong>integrity,<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;proud,&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>respected, responsible, leader and strong.&nbsp;<\/strong>In a real sign of collaboration, the stakeholder group unanimously selected&nbsp;a lion&nbsp;to be the Richland Royals mascot.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BrandEra&nbsp;quickly developed a range of lion sketches, ranging from friendly to fierce. Options had a variety of crowns, manes and expressions. Again, stakeholders were given a chance to&nbsp;weigh in and a \u201ctype\u201d of lion was selected. The agency then developed tighter sketches&nbsp;followed by computer renderings,&nbsp;and&nbsp;the&nbsp;Richland Royals were born.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final Royals logo embodies an attitude of confidence and pride. Its gaze is forward and&nbsp;upward&nbsp;and its mane is flowing, as if it is looking and leading into the future. The lion\u2019s crown is regal and in its&nbsp;shadowing&nbsp;there is an abstract \u201cR\u201d thoughtfully placed in its center.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"blob:https:\/\/blog.birdvilleschools.net\/623c96f3-acc3-40b8-a70b-9f0f1e059954\">\u00a0<br>Several other\u00a0branding elements were created as part of this project including:\u00a0a\u00a0school\u00a0crest, a\u00a0spirit\u00a0flag, social media graphics,\u00a0a\u00a0hype\u00a0video\u00a0and a mascot rendering that will be used to create a new mascot costume.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since 1961, Richland High School has been a pillar of community pride with highly accomplished alumni and a thriving and inspired student body.
