On Thursday, July 23, <\/span><\/span>my administration and I presented<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>BISD\u2019s Reopening Plan<\/span><\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/span>(Plan) <\/span><\/span>for 2020 to the trustees<\/span><\/span> at their monthly Board meeting<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>(View present<\/span><\/span>ation to the Board<\/span><\/span>)<\/span><\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/span>We anticipate <\/span><\/span>the P<\/span><\/span>lan<\/span><\/span> will continue to <\/span><\/span>evolve<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>based on<\/span><\/span> further guidance from the<\/span><\/span> CDC, the<\/span><\/span> Texas Education Agency, Governor Abbott, Tarrant County <\/span><\/span>Public <\/span><\/span>Health<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> or <\/span><\/span>Tarrant County <\/span><\/span>Judge Glen Whitley.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Safety is<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> and always will be<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> my number one priority. <\/span><\/span>That is why we are working closely with these agencies to make sure students and staff are safe when face-to-face instruction resumes. <\/span><\/span>Despite our best efforts<\/span><\/span>, I realize that <\/span><\/span>no plan<\/span><\/span> will <\/span><\/span>ever be perfect. <\/span><\/span>However, o<\/span><\/span>ur plan will continue<\/span><\/span> to be refined to make sure we are doing all we can to protect students and staff.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Inside the P<\/span><\/span>lan are details for face-to-face instruction and online instruction. Currently, all Tarrant County public school<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span> are under a health order restricting face-to-face instruction until Sept. 28. <\/span><\/span>Therefore, BISD is working to <\/span><\/span>fine<\/span><\/span>–<\/span><\/span>tune our online learning plan<\/span><\/span> in preparation for the beginning of school <\/span><\/span>on Monday, August<\/span><\/span> 24<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During the first six weeks <\/span><\/span>of<\/span><\/span> school, BISD will provide<\/span><\/span> online <\/span><\/span>learning for students<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span>S<\/span><\/span>tudents will not be <\/span><\/span>physically present in a<\/span><\/span> tradit<\/span><\/span>ional classroom environment<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> but <\/span><\/span>instead <\/span><\/span>will <\/span><\/span>receive lessons in a digital environment. <\/span><\/span>This format will allow<\/span><\/span> students and teachers to connect as a class in multiple ways, including discussion boards, interactive assignments, lesson videos, video conferences, and more. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Many parents have asked if grading will be the same or different <\/span><\/span>from<\/span><\/span> the end of the spring semester<\/span><\/span>. B<\/span><\/span>ISD<\/span><\/span>\u2019s<\/span><\/span> grading guidelines and policies will be followed for <\/span><\/span>online (<\/span><\/span>asynchronous remote<\/span><\/span>)<\/span><\/span> learning and will be consistent with the grading policies for on-campus assignments. Students will receive numeric grades<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> and all reporting grades will be used to determine promotion to the next grade level and, for high school courses, will count towards a student\u2019s grade point average (GPA). High school courses and numeric grades will be reflected on a student\u2019s transcript.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I am excited to announce that BISD is working to <\/span><\/span>begin<\/span><\/span> the school year by providing students with Chromebooks to be able to participate in online learning. For families needing assistance with internet c<\/span><\/span>onnectivity, BISD is working to<\/span><\/span> <\/span>provide<\/span><\/span> assistance<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span>Before<\/span><\/span> the first day o<\/span><\/span>f online instruction<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>the District<\/span><\/span> will provide details.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

L<\/span><\/span>et me encourage you to <\/span><\/span>read and follow<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>BISD\u2019s Reopening Plan<\/span><\/span><\/a>. As we u<\/span><\/span>pdate the <\/span><\/span>Plan<\/span><\/span>, we will<\/span><\/span> flag new or updated information to make it easier for parents and staff to <\/span><\/span>quickly<\/span><\/span> see<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
