Texas Education Commissioner, Mark Morath, issued a statement regarding STAAR Reading and Math assessments for fifth- and eighth-grade students.\u00a0Morath announced that the state will be removing student consequences attached to STAAR for fifth and eighth-grade students for the 2015\u201316 school year. He also cancelled the June 21\u201322 fifth- and eighth-grade retest administration.<\/p>\n

To support student learning, Birdville ISD will continue the accelerated instruction classes through June 22 for fifth- and eighth-grade students who passed all courses but did not pass the second administration of the STAAR Reading or Math assessments. The focus of the classes will be on individual learning plans designed to prepare students for the next grade level and beyond rather than on simply preparing them to pass a test.<\/p>\n

Students who did not pass the second administration of STAAR Reading or Math assessments and also did not pass one or more courses will continue their learning at Haltom High School beginning Wednesday, June 15. They will conclude their learning on July 21. (The district is closed July 4\u20138.) Transportation is provided from the middle school campuses to Haltom High. Someone from the home campus will contact parents to set up a meeting to discuss academic progress and grade placement before the beginning of the school year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
