Elizabeth Cumbie, an eighth-grade teacher at Watauga Middle School, and Mickie Siek, an eighth-grade teacher at North Richland Middle School, were invited to be part of a small group of social studies teachers from across Texas to go to Mount Vernon during spring break. They will attend a week-long exploration of new ways to teach the Constitution, in alignment with our Texas standards. Both were part of a rigorous selection process, which included an essay explaining how George Washington and the 18th-century world is relevant to their teaching, their personal teaching philosophy, and how they can use what they learn to engage and impact their students.<\/p>\n<p>Cumbie will be using her class social media accounts (Instagram: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/wmshistory\/\">WMSHistory<\/a>) to engage and interact with students while attending the training.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two Birdville ISD eighth-grade social studies teachers have been accepted to attend a week of learning at George Washington&#8217;s Mount Vernon home.
