BISD Night at Globe Life Park
Celebrate the end of the 2018–19 school year and the final Birdville ISD night at Globe Life Park on Thursday, May 30. A portion of each ticket sold will go back to the BISD Education Foundation.
Collegiate Academy of Birdville Students Sign Scholarship Acceptance Letters
The Collegiate Academy of Birdville held its first Signing Night Ceremony on April 22 in the auditorium at Haltom High School. The inaugural class of 60 students officially accepted their scholarships, valued at approximately $12,000 per student, for the opportunity to earn Associates Degrees from Tarrant County College during their four years of high school. The Academy is designated as an Early College High School by the Texas Education Agency, and students can earn 60 or more college hours while earning their high school diplomas. Early College High Schools recruit and enroll students who are at risk and subpopulations of students historically underrepresented in college courses, such as first generation college goers, students of low socioeconomic status, and African American, Hispanic, and Native American students.

Thank you to the 878 individuals who read in 676 Birdville ISD (BISD) K-8 classrooms as part of World Read Aloud Day on Feb. 1. We appreciate you taking time to model to our students the importance and joy of reading.
World Read Aloud Day is celebrated by millions of people in more than 100 countries. This event calls global attention to the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories. This event was celebrated by elementary and middle schools across the District.
Trustees Approve Two Administrative Appointments
At their regular meeting, Birdville ISD’s Board of Trustees approved the administrative appointments of Dave Lambson as executive director of technology and Lisa Collett Walker as principal of Holiday Heights Elementary School. Lambson is replacing Randy Sumrall, who is retiring at the end of the 2017–18 school year; and Walker is replacing Mike Dukes, who is also retiring at the end of the school year.
Dave Lambson has been director of technical services with BISD since 2013. Prior to Birdville, he was an enterprise solutions architect at Brigham Young University–Idaho from 2010–13; director of application development and maintenance at Katy ISD from 2006–10; lead developer at Xpediant Educational Solutions from 2002–06; and a web application developer at ExpressTimeSheets, Inc. from 2000–02.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and master’s degree from the University of North Texas.
Lisa Walker has been an assistant principal at Old Union Elementary School in Carroll ISD since 2012. Prior to Carroll, she was an assistant principal at Pflugerville ISD from 2007–11; assistant principal at Elgin ISD from 2006–07; instructional specialist at Elgin ISD from 2005–06; and fifth-grade teacher at Pflugerville ISD from 1997–2005.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and master’s degree from the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor
Author Matt Cordell Speaks to BISD Students
Matt Cordell, an award-winning author, recently spoke to students at Holiday Heights, Porter, Walker Creek, Watauga, and West Birdville elementary schools. Cordell was recently awarded the Caldecott Medal, one of the most prestigious awards given to children’s book authors, for his book Wolf in the Snow.
